Paint stock rsx rims? If so have question.
Im interested in painting my rims a gun metal color. For those who have done it i have some questions.
1. Did you sand the rim
2. How many coats
3. Did you put a clear coat on it to give it some shine
Please no pics. I dont need this thread getting locked. I know what painted rims look like. I figured i would actually ask some RSX guys instead of in the appearance forum. Any other tips or advice would be appreciated.

1) Yes, with a very fince grit sandpaper, also after sanding clean the rims with rubbing alcohol to remove all dirt.
2) I probably did atleast 8-10 extremely light coats
3) Yes, you can buy a clear-cost that is made to protect against tar and brake dust/fuild/grime at a local auto parts store, it works greats and my rims held up pretty well and look good.
I did all of this in about 3-4 hours, let the rims dry overnight and it cost me under $20. Also for a nice finishing touch, before your clear-cost them, I went over the "A" in the centercaps with red finger-nail-polish and it looks great. I did a black wheel with a red "A", very racecar.
Hope that helps

i have to second the powdercoating route.
it will cost more, but they will (should) chemically clean the wheels, coat them, bake the parts, and depending on the color, clearcoat them.
the down side is that you could be without your wheels for a while. a lot of powdercoaters don't like doing small batches, so sometime you need to wait while other pieces arrive that need that same color.
also, if you pick a color they don't normally stock, expect an additional cost.
you can paint the wheels, but they will chip and start looking ratty, unless you layer the paint fairly thich and correctly.

yes definitely sand them and clean them.... i also used steel wool or a brillo with water to get everythign off of it
i would do a few coats... maybe 7 or so.. it depends on the color really... oh yea and you dont have to primer them if you sand it with fine grit. i used rustoleum paint on mine and its held up for over 5 months now..
