Default grinding a straight edge on thick sheet metal

I'm having somewhat of a big problem.

I have a bunch of big trapazoidal shapes cut out of 3/16" sheet with a computer controlled plasma cutting table.
During the cuts something went wrong with the plasma cutter and gave the resulting shapes a very rough edge.
I have to get a pretty straight looking edge on these peices and I don't have a lot of excess metal to spare.

Any tips of grinding a really straight egde? I've thought about clamping a peice of straight 1"square tubing to the side and following it like a guide.

any thoughts?

Sounds like the electrode or the tip went bad causing a rough cut. I'm not sure what to do on your other question. Probably setup some sort of guide.

I know a wood router with a carbide cutter can do a fantastic job on metal... no kidding, seen it done. Clamp a very straight guide along the path and have at it. Obviously it works better with aluminum then steel, but still. We'll discuss my fee later
