Throttle Body Sensor
I just had my H23 swapped out with a JDM H22a in my 93 SI Automatic Prelude. I have been noticing that the car feels like it is lagging a little bit sometimes. What I mean is that I will be giving the car gas but it feels like it wont be going anywhere sometimes. Also, the car misfires a little bit. It doesn't make load popping sounds though. It happens mainly when I let go of the gas and the car is at high rpms. As it slows down the exhaust kinda rattles and pops a little bit. Also, the H22a doesn't redline at what I think an H22a should redline at. It stops at my old H23 redline.
Now, the mechanic that put this in for me said the JDM H22a didn't come with a throttle body sensor so he had to use my old one. He now thinks that is causing the problem. Can anyone clue me in on what the throttle body sensor does? I know it controls the amount of gas that is sprayed according to the gas pedal pressure basically. Would it also cause my RPMs to be limited to the H23 redline? On that note, what exactly is the JDM H22a supposed to redline at? I know it is more but don't know how much more. Would the misfiring be caused by the wrong sensor as well?
I replaced the spark plugs and wires just to eliminate the chance of either of those causing the misfiring.
Where can I get a throttle body sensor if I do need to get one for the H22a? That is a factory adjusted piece isn't it?

Are you confident the swap was done right? - it sounds to me like you might still be on the p14 ecu (peel back the front passenger carpet and have a look) - and possibly running the h23's injectors. does it look like he actually did change JUST the tps, (you'll know because he'll have had to have made little screw heads out of the attachment) or are you suspicious he just used your entire h23a intake manifold with it's injectors.
does your vtec kick in it 5g? - you'll hear a definite change in engine tone...
the h22a with h23 injectos and a p14 will run ok (if not a bit lean heh) I only know because the shop that did my swap tried to pull a few fast ones on me. the vtec obviously will not work with the p14 ecu.
the h22a, with h23 injectors and a p13 - will bog really bad obviously - at anything above idle.
the tps (correct me if i'm wrong) should throw a code - if it was the problem. I think a code 7.
if this is the prob, you are running a bit lean - so don't push your car too much, look into getting the right ecu (p13) and injectors (from a h22a) ASAP.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I am sure about the new ECU because I personally ordered the engine it I ordered it with an ECU. The mechanic is a family friend who owns his own shop. If he pulled a fast one on me then all hell break loose!
As for the injectors. I remember him using the H22a intake manifold. We had one problem where it didn't come with a canister for emmissions because they aren't required in Japan so I had to fix and use my old one.
So you don't think it is the throttle position/body sensor? Wouldn't that be causing issues if it is off as well?
How can I check to see if the engine is throwing codes?

The TPS does have to be adjusted as opposed to just installing it. Here's a link on how to do that...http://www.integra.orcon.net.nz/tps
If that doesn't fix it you can either get a new TB with TPS from Honda for $500, or get a TPS on ebay for like $30....hmmm, tough choice.
Also, it won't throw a code if it's just a little off, so calibrate it right just to be sure.
Replace your cap and rotor also and see if that helps...

Ok so I read that page. Thanks for the link BTW. It helps out a lot.
My car idles fine as far as I can tell but it is just when I give it gas that I feel it is running into issues. Would the TPS not being adjusted correctly cause my car to redline lower than it should? Thanks!

I don't think it will change your redline, but I do know that when winter got here, something happened to my TPS and it started to stutter really bad on partial throttle. If I unplug it, the car runs fine, but idles high...
Unplug it and take it for a drive and see what happens, that'll help narrow down the problem.
