lights brightening then dimming (annoying)

Default lights brightening then dimming (annoying)

at night my headlights go from bright to dim (really bright...light high beaming) then back down
i acn also hear my blower fan increase with these surges
alternator?
anyone else had this prob
98 civic ex....no stereo

sounds like your alternator. if theres a checker auto parts or auto zone near by, they can check it for free, but it sounds like your alternator

battery is new
i bet its the regulator
isnt there a relay though for the headlamps that could cause this?

I think I got the same problem too, never figured it out though. I just decided to park to car for winter.

If ite the regulator then you might as well get a new one. with like a lifetime warrenty on it, and no a relay would not cause it, all a realy dose basically is open a curent and then closes it.

its the alternator, i remember when mine broke and i got a rebuilt one,e it did that in intervals of .5 seconds, very annoying, i got my origianl one rebuilt and its perfect now!

i must say the battery is aminly only used to start the car. then doesn't do much. your alt takes over from there. but any lose of powere would be to check to see if your alt is pulling out the right amount og ampage it should be. DVOM is the best investment for this cux you will use it to check volts and power connections all the time.
