I need transaction advise
here is my situation.....I had an obd1 distributor off of my b18a, it was in use for about 500 miles until I did my swap. I bought it at a Acura dealer in town brand new. I bought it brand new because I get a pretty good discount since I'm a mechanic at the local Honda dealership. Well since I had done the swap, the motor has been in my garage untouched. I decided to part with the distributor, because I had no need for it cause the other head I have, for my race car is a vtec head. So i put it up forsale here on honda -tech, thinking someone will get better use out of a perfectly good, low milage distributor. Well i sold it to a member(I will keep his username confidential) last week. He recieved it on weds. and calls me today saying the distributor does not work. I do not know what to say or do. The thing is almost new, and was working when I pulled my car into the garage and took the motor out. Now I am the kinda of person who is willing to take care of the customer....but how do I know, that he didn't take out parts that he needed to get his car running, and put the old ones in mine and now tell me I sold him a bad one. I knew for a fact that the distributor I sold him was in perfect working order. Oh yeah, after he recieved the distributor in the mail he pm's me and tells me that he had a hard time taking the rotor out? Why would you need to take it out when it has such low milage? He could have stripped the screw and got metal shavings inside of it, causing it not to work correctly. Or he could of hooked it up wrong internaly causing it to not work right. i dunno? What I know is, its hard to believe I sold a perfectly good distributor to somone, and now they say they want there money back casue it does not work. I am not, what so ever any kinda of person who would try to make a buck off of someone by selling them something I knew was junk, cause I'm not the kinda of person. I don't want to tell this person...."tuff ****"...."its outta of my hands now"....and get a bad name on this site. And its not about the money, because I haven't even got a chance to cash the money order he sent me as payment, which was only $100, for a HONDA OEM distributor, assembled, with cap, rotor, ingniter, coil that had less than 500 miles of use.
what should I do?
what should I do?
I sold some distributor in the pass, I usually check them, that everything works, before I shipped it out, i marked it, in such a way that if the buyers claim that it doesnt work, i will refund after I check it out. To make sure that it wasnt open & replaced some internal parts. I mean you never know they could just have change their mind of buying it, so they'll just say it doesnt work or worst replaced with some broken parts i.e. ignitor etc.
If I find out that it wasnt opened/replaced it parts, then I will give a full refund. But otherwise, Ill send back the distributor. In your case, in a gray area, I guess you can refund it after you check everything out that nothing was replaced & it still works when you get it back. But for them to say "he had a hard time taking the rotor out" is not a good sign.
well good luck

This is a very good point that egjoe has. I have done the same thing in marking some of the stuff i have sold that i know works. For all you know they switched it with their non working units and said that was the one you sent them.
