ITR head vs. GSR head...any real difference?
Hey peeps, i am hoping someone can help me...i am on the brink of making a purchase for a 2000 itr complete head, but then a friend of mine asked me:
"so what is the difference between the ITR head and the GSR head?"
I didnt know the answer to his question..."i just know its better" is what i told him
can someone please school my ignorant *** as to why the ITR head is indeed better than the GSR head, or is it?
thanks in advance for all the help, and by the way, i searched everywhere and didnt find this topic so please dont flame me if it has already been covered!

The ITR head has a mild port job from the factory, lighter intake valves, different valve springs and lost motion assemblies and cams.
The GSR head casting is completely different. Different shape intake ports and combustion chambers.

ok thanx mike for the input...so would the ITR head be a good choice for an ls\vtec then?
Also, what are the lost motion assemblies?

ITR head is a good choice if you're leaving the head stock.
If you're gonna port it go w/ B16 or GSR.
LMA's dampen the VTEC rocker when not in use. ITR is stiffer.

ok Mike, thanx for all the help, but 2 more questions:
why not port it, why is b16 better to port??
and
would this head be a good candidate for boost via turbo? drag makes a stage 3 kit for the ITR.

I think he is saying a B16 would be "better" to port because you would end up with the same results but for less money. The ITR and B16 heads are the same cast.
Stock for stock, the ITR head will flow better because of the mild port job from the factory...but if you have them both ported aftermarket, they will end up flowing the same.

thanks HX, i see now...but actually wouldnt i save money because i wouldnt need a port and polish job if i had the c5? also, would you turbo a c5 head?

depending on who does the porting, you may or may not get better results out of a ported b16 head vs. a ITR head.
like i said, if you don't wanna port it.. go ITR.
but if you wanna port it, buy a b16 for cheap and buy some valve seals and ITR intake valves. it'll end up being cheaper than getting ITR head and porting it.
turbo a b18c5? go for it.

he's saying the c5 has a MILD port... so you might as well get the b16 head and do a full job on it.... if youre going to port one

ok guys...now i get it. no need to waste money though, so i choose the mildly ported c5, and i am getting it cheaper than I have been able to find any b16 anyway!
thanx for all the help fellas!!!!

yea, i am pretty lucky huh...i have been searching for a long time though, trying to find the best head, and i lucked up i guess!!!
Also, don't forget that the CCV of the 94 up GSR head is less than the PR3 (ITR) head because of the smaller quench areas. Which means more compression with the same pistons as far as LS/VTEC is concerned. But yes, the P72 head is the "bastard" head. All of the other B-series VTEC motors use the PR3 head (B16A, B17A, B18C5).
