I have a 2000 honda civic, with a 95 gsr swap into my car, i have skunk2 manifold, dc 4-1 header, intake, 2.5" piping... my question is what can be wrong with my car, i can't cruise it in n e gear for awhile, cuz then i'll make a weird noise when i let off the gas, plus when i drive in 3rd it pops out of gear, and sometimes it doens't even go in and grinds. The worst is my 5th gear, i live in the San Fernando Valley, and whenever i go to pasadena, l.a, palmdale, practically in thing in a 15 plus min distance, my car will not stay in 5th gear it continually pops out of gear and i will have to hold it in gear, and even then it'll still shoot out of gear as soon as my hand starts cramping up and i can't hold it at full force into gear. What can be wrong? And how much is this all going to cost me? If n e one can help me please, i am very disappointed having all this power, yet not capable of running it hard because of the wear on my tranny. Thank for you time.

Check your clutch... If it makes noises when you release the clutch, it could be your release bearing or pilot bearing.

As far as it not staying in gear, sounds like clutch is not holding. Check it

DUDE! my friend has the exact same problem as you. He's got a 92 DX with like a 95 GSR swap. The tranny now... after having the casing welded closed for this hole in the case, it pops out of 3rd sometimes and 5th a lot. So it's either worn syncros or the guy that put everything back in screwed up.

But yeah... if the gear just pops out while cruising then the syncros are beat. It shouldn't be the clutch or it would do it each gear. Not sure what the syncros will cost you. Maybe someone else with some experience can reply.

In the meantime... just use 4th gear for cruising. 4th in a GSR isn't all that bad.

Here's something you should check.. wont cost much either.. check and make sure your trans fluid is full and up to where it should be, or replace it completely w/ new fluid..

I had the exact same problem a few yrs back w/ my LS trans.. my 5th gear would suddenly pop out of gear while cruising on the hwy... Freaked me out and i didnt know what to do.. so when i got home, i checked things out and LOW AND BEHOLD, my trans fluid was LOW.. Filled it up to the proper level, and I've never had the same problem since..

you may have damaged your interals though depending on how long u've been driving around w/ the problem.. SO i'd check it as soon as possible if i was u..

ya im definetly going to take all your comments into consideration. I have a feeling it's going to be something internal, which usually costs up the butt hole. It completely freaked me out when it started happening, but with time and money anything can be solved ...

your transmission definetly has a synchronization problem, but im 99% sure that at this point its not gonna be just the synchronizer blocker ring( thats the bronze colored thing if you've ever seen the inside of a tranny) at this point it sounds like your gonna need new 3rd and 5th speed gears, synchronizer blocker rings and synchronizer sleeves. all of the blocker rings should be replaced. the reason its poping out of gear like that is because the teeth on the speed gear and synchronizer sleeve cant hold together anymore because they've been ground down and axial thrust caused by engine torque and road resistance causes the gears to separate and the more you give it gas the louder and more violent the pop will be.

thats enought theory. the main point is that labor time and parts will most likely amount to somthing comparable to a new or rebuilt tranny minus the core charge. best of luck with it.
