bullshit ticket please read
a few days ago i got a ticket around 1:50AM. the sheriff pulled me over and asked me. did you notice that you went a lil fast off of the start? i replied, "sir the traffic light was green already, anyways, that son of a bitch wrote me for having a modified exhaust, and an unsafe start. the way it happened was that i was in first gear, going about 15 MPH or so, then i stepped on the gas and my rpms went to 8k and i let off the gas after first gear. tires didnt screech or anything. the funny thing was that i have a stock exhaust but i have an AEM CAI which makes my car sound much louder. I wanted to ask you guys if you knew what an unsafe start was, because i want to go to court and prove to them that this wasnt true. THANX
Get an attorney!!! I can't believe a cop gave you those tickets Anyway, a skilled traffic attorney should be able to get you out of these tickets. If you choose to defend yourself, you'll likely be found guilty just because you're not aware of the nuances of the law. Best of luck!!!

My experience with traffic tickets are mainly speeding and I have gone to court over each one without a lawyer. If you have a decent driving record or better then you'll just plea "no contest" pay a court fee and no points on your license. If you want to take it further, where the cop and yourself present your case, then take some pics at a car dealership of a similar car and p[ics of your car's exhaust and prove the exhaust is stock but with the "unsafe start" unless you have a witness it is going to your word against the cop's. My suggestion, is if your time is valuable then hire a traffic lawyer, if not plea "no contest" pay the court cost and be done with it. Going further than that you'll be gambling on the "unsafe start" charge. By the way, I'm not a lawyer but have had my experience in court. Good luck.
I don't know where you live, but in Ohio, you're in worse shape if you plead no contest than if you plead guilty. I was in traffic court in Northeast Ohio (Cuyahoga Falls) and the judge explicity stated if anyone plead no contest they were automatically going to be found guilty and they're fine doubled!!! Two tickets later and idiot came up and plead no contest, he was scolded, then found guilty, given his two points for speeding, and his fine doubled to $150 (from $75) + court costs.
The same goes for Cleveland Heights and Southwest Ohio (Centerville, Dayton, and Kettering). Not good advice around here. You absolutely have to get an attorney or plead guilty, because you'll never convince a judge around here that you're not guilty, I don't care how silly the ticket is!

Well, I guess your right. Every state has different laws and every judge has a different attitude. I live in South Florida so I guess we have nicer judges. But, by pleading "no contest" you are neither pleading guilty or not guilty. If this guy pleas guilty, he'll be slaughtered with fines but worse higher insurance cost for a very long time. If this guy has never stepped into a court room then get a traffic lawyer. I'm just explaining what my experiences have been and does not necessarily mean they will work for everyone.
my friend got an unsafe start ticket...but the officer wrote "excessive acceleration" on the ticket
it sure was tho..there was smoke and screeching everywhere

friend got an unsafe start tix in Irvine in his CRX. Light turned green, he accelerated normally but tyres screached a little bit on the painted crosswalk on a rainy day.

If you live in CA give me the violation code and I will look it up, it may be something differnet than what the police wrote, therefore letting you off the ticket in court.
Talk about bullsh*t...that sucks...i gotta a unsafe start ticket b4, but that was when i launched off the line. Its not that bigga deal, I went to court and the judge just fined me $60, and told me i gotta go to traffic school. For the unsafe start ticket it will probably add a point, but the "modified exhaust" dont worry about it.

i got a "exhibition of speed" on christmas eve, this cop pulled me over for screeching my tires. I chirped second not thinking that it would "chirp" cause usually it just grips but i ripped the hell out of it, and he gave me a warning but he said "you like racing around and speeding in my city, that is a exhibtion of speed kid, and blah blah blah" i said "im late to my family's dinner for christmas that goes on every year, im sorry for officer".........but that was that.......
