OT: Quiksilver Eddie Aikau Big Wave Challenge: Hawaii
This is seriously off topic. Moderators can delete if needed.
As some of you know, I live on the North Shore of Oahu. I'd thought I'd spread some Aloha and share with you guys what is going on right now only three miles down the road from my house. The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Challenge is a contest that is held once every year (waves permitted) at the famous Wiamea Bay on Oahu. The contest is not held unless the waves are reading 20ft plus on the Hawaiian scale. This equates into 40 foot plus wave faces. The contest is invite only and one of the most prestigious contests in the world. It's a contest to honor Eddie Aikau who lost his life surfing large waves, so the contest is held in his honor.
For you surfers out there, notable people who are in the contest are: Kelly Slater, Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Shane Dorian, Titus Kinimaka (desendent of hawaiian royalty), Laird Hamilton and a few other notable rippers.
Attending this contest or even being there to watch it would be like being an honarary invitee to some famous car race. I really can't think of anything to make you non-surfers understand just how respected these guys are and what an honor it is to be invited to this surfing contest.
I have included a link to the live video feed so you guys can get a glipse of what is currently going on in my world, right now. I know it's super off topic, but I'm stoked and figured a couple of you would be interested in seeing this stuff. It's literally history in the making.

Hey Brando,
Sounds like fun and it is dedicated to a good guy
. I am heading to either Maui or Kauai (sp) in early March and was just wondering which one is typically better for waves during that season?
We are finally getting some NW swell right now in So-cal too!!!
EDIT: Damn those waves a huge!

That's some pretty messed up **** to say to people when they live in the north east
Actual temp out side 33°F but Feels Like 25°F
If you offer for me to come out there then that would be another story

Yeah...it's high 80's right now and blue skies. I've never seen so many pairs of ***** in bikinis, EVER, on North Shore...or in one place for that matter. Scantily clad women everywhere. Life is good.
Bbasso: If you want to come out, I can show you around. The car should be done in two months and we can go eat all the rich guys that drive Ferraris and Lambos down in Waikiki. If your seriously interested, or anyone for that matter, send me an IM. I have a comfy couch and live on five acres with a three minute walk to a world famous beach.

*puts her winter coat + boots on and busts out the ice scRaper to take the arrh out*
penpen: who is jealous
That is some pretty cool stuff.
I was riding a board all day today too~! lol. A snowboard.
Temperatures at the base were about 6 degrees Fahrenheit @ 8am in the morning.
It was cold, icy, windy, trails closed off forcing us to take the flatest trail possible(aka alot of walking) but it was a good day...fingers were frozen after taking pictures and putting the camera away...it was cold....

hahaha, looking at most of my pictures now, it was so hard holding the camera level...*sigh*, ill blame it on the frozen fingers.
surfing...huh...80 degree temperature...what's that?~!? so nice. very jealous of that 'mild' climate type weather.

may not be super popular but theres way to much "nationalism" or whatever, the hawaiians down there are crazy stingy about tourists or non-hawaiians riding/surfing on "their waves/turf"

Sweet!!!! Surfing on the north shore by far has been one of the best and craziest experiences of my life.....although at the time the waves weren't anywhere near as big as those
