Why did tranny blow?
Sup peoples. My buddy's 90 Si trans crapped out on him the other nite. So we replaced it today. When we were taking the axles out, the passenger came out fine. The driver was stuck in there because the ring at like stretched and bent all off the end of the splines. The problem turned out to be broken differential, as we can look str8 through the axles holes and that bar is not there, but u can hear/see it move around inside somewhere. Any ideas on what might have caused this? He thinks the trans may have been overfilled with fluid, but i dont see how that could have caused it. Thanks!

Edit: Also, I have another tranny with a bad input shaft bearing. The tranny with the blown differential has no grinds. Would I be able to somehow combine these and make a good tranny. Also have a d16y7 tranny as well, anything useful in that? I'm thinkin about puttin together a hybrid tranny that has short 1-4 gears and a longer 5th gear for highway driving.
Any input on any of the above is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like the tranny had a hard life. Poor thing. You should take the input shaft bearing out of the Si tranny and put it in the other one. If things have been rattling around in the Si tranny, chances are that it has some dinged up teeth. All I have ever taken apart are cable trannies, so i couldn't tell you anything about the Y7 tranny compatability. Good luck.
