How do YOU guys pass emissions with your turbo/supercharged setup???
Hey everybody,
The darkside of forced induction is calling my name... and Ben's Drag 3 deal looks hot.. but first a practical question... How do you guys pass emissions? My car is a daily driver. Here in NY every car is strapped to a dyno and driven to 60 something mph to test emissions....
Are the only choices to:
1) Uninstall everything and go back to stock eveytime you have an emissions check? (HOURS of hard work)
2) Find an "understanding" emissions station that can pass you? (What if they disappear one day? Or what if you move somewhere that doesn't have one?)
Frankly, these 2 choices aren't that acceptable to me. And just to be sure.. are these the only setups which will pass emissions?
1) JRSC 6psi
2) Greddy w/o intercooler
If that's the case.. looks like JRSC might be my only choice.. despite the gains a turbo setup can give. Anyhow.. .any help you guys can give is appreciated. Thanks! Lookin forward to some insight....

if theres several stations where u can get emissions try looking for one where the staff is real young. Then go into the office and ask them if theres any hassles for coming in with a turbo. I had no problems getting my car smogged.
u mean my car has to pass emmisions as well as safety?
oops...
u just have to know people... last year i payed 40 for my inspection

this is why i am JRSC'd instead DRAG GEN III Turbocharged! I live in So Cal and would've been thrown in jail by now if I had gotten the turbo. An ******* cop made me pop my hood and was giving me crap, saying that its a federal offense punishable by imprisonment, etc... and he was in a bad mood for some reason, too! I was like, "SHADDUP! LOOK!" pointing to the CARB #'s and he was like, "oh" and had to let me go. it was a good thing i went smog legal.
It should be no problem to pass on a drag system, as long as they pass your visual all you do lean the crap out of it and shim your waste gate to 0PSI, your car should make no boost on their dyno. Also make sure car is tested real hot like right when you bring it in. My car passed emissions and pulled nothing but 0000's. car wont detonate either as their is little load and the waste gate should be stuck open at 0PSI
honestly, I wouldn;t even think about this kinda shiet...
the power you'll achieve with turbo is far greater than any risk as far as smog test....
eventhen, you'll only need to take off the manifold, turbo, dp, IC piping and re-install your header, cat, and intake piping...
takes less than half a day...for an out of control power in your steering wheel ? hmm, I'll take turbo anyday....
don't be a *****, go turbo, who gives a **** about emission test....all those guys in a 60, 70, 80's chevy truck are far worst than us the turbo people....
and besides, money does a lot of shiets for you, and it's prolly costing you 50 bucks to get somebody to pass you...

Make sure it's not the shop owner or manager doing the test first of all. When you get out tell the kid doing it that there's something for him in the ashtray. Hint that you really need to pass emissions and your set. Leave the 50 and maybe a joint in the ashtray. Most of those guys make chump-change. A bonus like $50 and some bud will do alot for you.
Im in NY.....i have NEVER heard of anyone strapping anyone to a dyno, thats bull, as for emissions, we dont have Cali emissions, so we can get away with a LITTLE bit more.......best bet, go down to your local speed shop, you know the ones, and ask the guys that work there where they get THEIR cars passed, usually there is one or two shadey garages in the city that will pass ya for 30 bucks and a six pack
60 mph? you nutz?
they strap the car to a dyno here in CT but they only bring it up to 3000 rpm for 30 sec. to "simulate" driving conditions. if you have a good cat you should pass w/ no problems.
