Here is a portion of the press release. I translated it quickly and made mainor changes to convey the message and avoid Engrish.
Up to now what has been traditionally called theall Japan GT Driver Chammpionship (GT Senshuukenn) by the GT associasion (GT-A), next year will be renamed the Suoer GT Series. The Formula Nippon (F-3000 equivalent) and All Japan Driver's Championship will come under one management. With the target to depart from being a Domestic only series and cross over to an International series. As announced by the head of GT Association Mr. Kaji, Jiro.
Why an international Series?
For an interantional series there are 3 points 1. Challenge to the world, Challenge from the world and a challenge to entertain.
Footnote about F-Nippon, it is pretty much F3000 in with Mugen Engines. Former F3000 Champs and drivers, Jean Alesi, R Schumasher, Ralph Firman.
Current F-Nippon champ and current JGTC champ Richard Lyons. If you compare driver lists, many F-Nippon drivers are also GT senshuken drivers.
Should I mention Alex Yoong as a former F-Nippon driver, or would that be bad for F-Nippon?

Yippy! Now I get to go next year without having asshat friends back out on me!
60k is a lot of people, but nothing compared to 110,000 when Nascar comes to Bristol....

yea, but NASCAR has been around for 40+ years and it draws those crowds in it's home country.

Good to see those "straight liners" finally come around.
