Flat-Bottom Valves
I am wanting to get the opinion of those who have flat-bottom valves in their cylinder heads. I am in the process of finishing a project that has been on and off over the past year. I am going to be sending my cylinder head off of my B16A2 to Alaniz for their Street Master setup here in a week or two (hopefully). I have already ponied up the majority of the cash for the work way back in June of this year when it was originally going to be done so forgoing this is not an option as my money is already tied up in the work (this will make sense later.) Upon completion of the cylinder head, I will be installing Buddy Club Spec III+ camshafts, Skunk2 cam timing gears, Omni Power valve springs and Ti retainers (actually to be installed with head while it is at Alaniz), and a Hondata s100-all of which have been sitting in my garage since near the beginning of the year.
This is the situation: I have less than four weeks to get this accomplished before winter break is over and spring semester starts (I am in college-again.) I am restricted by time and a limited budget and can do two of the three things I want: pay for the install and tuning of all of my parts, pay for a set of Omni Power valves, or pay for the rest of the Alaniz head work. I want to know if I forego the purchase of the Omni Power valves, how much power will I be missing? The head will be milled by .020 and I will still be using the stock USDM B16 pistons (10.2:1 CR). Don't get me wrong: I am all about doing it right the first time, but I have been waiting quite awhile. With working a full 40 hour work week and attending school year round and full time I have very little time to drive 2 1/2 hours to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and leave my car there for a week or so while the head is pulled and shipped to Alaniz. So, is it worth it to skip on the valves and let the B16 miss out an a few tenths of a point of compression, or just suck it up and if it takes longer get the valves and do it up good the first time. Speak up all you flat-bottom valve owners (and all-motor B16 people.) Thanks.
