Just in case you hadn't noticed, Doug's posted up a couple of new stories.
Suby's and Evo's...intrigueing...but somebody else can have them.
Here's a start: http://www.nsxfiles.com/evo_sows.htm
Scott, who is glad he can't afford the kind of problems Wayne always seems to have...

Poor fellow... if he thinks those are problems all he has to do is sell the cars to make the problems go away, right?
While entertaining, it kinda comes across as pissing and moaning about "problems" that most people don't care about and that aren't important. Or is it thinly disguised bragging? Getting a ticket in a ferrari, oh well, blowing up a racing engine, tough, driving on a bad shock, waaaa!

I'd venture to guess that's it.

I think you guys are missing the spririt in which Doug writes.
He's sharing and entertaining - not boasting.
Scott, who has a hard time understanding how people sometimes judge the motives of others as being so different from their own...

</TD></TR></TABLE>If there's one thing Doug is not, it's a braggart - unless maybe it's a little friendly smack after success in some sort of race event.
I think what you are perceiving as whining or moaning is actually nothing more than self-effacing humor. For instance how, even with his years of driving experience, Doug can laugh at himself for his complete inability to diagnose a mal-performing suspension. Or the continuing "Raceaflais" theme- how, even with their success financially, Doug and Wayne still struggle to keep their cars running and put together in time for track events, just like everyone else.
I think when a lot of people see Doug and Wayne roll in to an event with the diesel rig and 48-footer loaded with serious hardware they think "man, these guys have it made". What Doug attempts to relay with his stories is that they too have to deal with the same problems everyone else does...albeit, on a slightly larger scale.

And there's quite a few stories about you in there, too, Jason.
I, for one, think Doug's tales are hysterical. After having spent the better part of 2 months of slow days at work, going back to the beginning of the NSXfiles and reading every single chapter, you realize just how self-deprecating Doug is, and is poking more fun at his and Wayne's selves, rather than bemoaning mishaps in their certainly enviable positions.
Like the time he left air tank in his trunk while going out for some hot laps. He's just pointing out that even though you can have a million dollars worth of gear, everyone still makes boneheaded mistakes.
I always look forward to new chapters, even emailing him sometimes to let him know we haven't heard from them in awhile. One of these days, we'll actually be at the same event together, and I can thank him in person for getting me through some otherwise, very boring days at work.

Of what real relavence is motorsport?
In the grand scheme of things, motorsport compels a (rather) small minority of obsessed fanatics; groups of people who go through live appeased by simply seeing a McLaren F1, attending Le Mans at least once or meeting a racing legend. None of those "milestones" mean anything to people outside of this obsession
You built a car in your garage, don't you think you could have applied yourself in a more judicious and philanthropic way to help elliviate the world of famine, disease or injustice ?
Get my point?
It's a double edged sword for people who "make it"; they share their stories, and are deemed braggarts by (possibly envious) voyeurs; or, they're deemed reclusive jerks by those same (possibly envious) voyeurs who'd like a glimpse, but for reasons of posterity and humility, they'd like to keep a low profile and that means keeping themselves, their cars and their experiences with them to them selves, in annonymity.
I enjoy reading Doug's site, simply because he recounts the "good life" with a realistic perspective; there are pages upon pages of his Ferrari puking oil, tranny fluid, his NSX imploding at random, and his dealings with Honda NA regarding his S2000; wouldn't you do the same, if you had the same cars ? I would.
How many of us here lambast about the shortcomings of our own cars ?
And about getting the ticket in the 360; he was making a joke; eg, making fun of Wayne for ebaying the VAFC, and, alas, driving a 360. I guess by order of law, you're disavowed from frugality once you've bought a Ferrari. Is that how it's supposed to be?
I don't mean to harp on you, your posts are usually informative and cordial, but your opinionation above is WAY off base - especially considering the fact that you've not once even met who you're talking about.

If you've got that kind of money, why oh why would you spend it on the exercise of polishing a sedan-based turd. This guy could have a runoffs winning Stohr for the money he's got in this Evo. It would be faster, more reliable, more fun, less hateful to work on, easier on consumables...
Bah. I'm starting to sound like a stuck record. To each their own, I suppose.

Although I do not know Doug personally, I also enjoy hearing of his misery! lol It makes all my trials with "Raceaflais" that much better!

We all have too much money.
Scott, who is trying to come to terms with the stark reality...sometimes it seems like a choice between Mother Teresa and Callous Bastard...and from what I recall of the Bible it's not one of those things you can really compromise on...I can easily see why so many people consider Hell an optional concept in faith.

So... he has expensive cars.
Why does he have too much money? Are any of us more deserving of success in life that we should have that much money instead? Or if you drive a ferrari 360 you shouldnt be allowed to talk about your cars?

I'm with XS.
"Who is this guy that bitches about having no money to fix his Evo, and then he pulls up in a 360 Modena with Challenge BBS wheels on it? WTF?"
I don't begrudge them their financial success, but if they exercised even a modicum of fiscal responsibility, they could avoid an awful lot of their problems. Whining about being broke, when you have a $100,000 car in the garage, sporting wheels that cost more than my track toy, strikes me as immature and slightly annoying.
And I'm beginning to see things Karl's way.

Early on in his series, Doug mentions that he and Wayne are the type of people who would rather burn up money on fast cars and fast driving than having a nice house and a big portfolio.
I would love to live parts of my life how they live parts of theirs, but I think I would personally have to be a _lot_ richer than they are to do what they do. But in many ways, I think I find myself very much identifying with Doug and Wayne, even though our particulars of our circumstances are quite different.
The main issue I have with them is the example they set or fail to set regarding driving on public roads.

wtf are you talking about? Trying to get all idealogical about the cultural "definition" of too much money?
thats my opinion, and I give not a **** if you dont agree, just like Im sure he doesnt give a **** that I think he is a stupid rich ****

Maybe I just dont get it.
Is it any different to be 'broke' for any other reason like buying a house or having a car payment every month? I really dont get what the $100k car has to do with this.... somehow that says he has unlimited funds?

when you prance around the internet posting stories about how great and how fast you are, you are opening a really big ******* door for people calling you an assclown.
and just about every time we go to the track, and you see some ego-stroker strutting around in a high dollar car, you dont talk about how fortunate that guy is, you talk trash just like everyone else.
