I have a 90 Civic with a 1.5 liter and there is a grinding noise coming from near the crankshaft pulley. I have not had a good opportunity to investigate it, but it sounds like it is coming from under the timing belt cover, but it is possible that it might be the alternator. Does anybody have any suggestions on what this might be?

Thanks for the reply, I'm not going to drive it till it gets fixed. Tonight I am going to start tearing into it. Anybody else have any advice?
