OT- Will security and pop-up blocker programs keep IMs away also?
Many of you guys know this stuff better than I.
Just got back from being out for nearly a week at the PRI show and was expecting a slew of IMs but none popped up. A few weeks ago, we put a new Symantec firewall and general security program with pop-up blocker on the home computer and since then I have only seen about three or four total H-T IMs show up at home (I usually get at least three or four every day bare minimum) plus my home email seems to be quite inconsistant with sendng messages during this time too. I was still getting a large number of H-T IMs on my work computer though. The day before leaving for PRI, my work computer got massively screwed up and had to be near totally reloaded and they put a fresh McAfee security program on it and now I have seen no H-T IMs there either.
Do these programs have some kind of over ride deal on them so they could be set to allow H-T IMS to pop through but block out the crap? Where would I find an origination address that H-T IMs would come from in case there is a provision to let messages from a specific sender to be allowed through.
If anyone has sent me any IMs in the last week or more that are unanswered, I apologize but I have not seen them yet.

yes, pop-up blocker will block IMs from popping up. Most blockers allow you to configure web sites that it should allow pop-ups for.
Perhaps more to the point though, if you click on "My Profile" above and then
Instant Message History
View your recent IM conversations.
That will provide you access to all IMs read or not (so you haven't missed anything unless its gone over 7 or 10 days IIRC).

That's what I have... and newer Internet Explorer will turn on its own automatically too. Both of them have options to enable for specific sites.
Good luck. And, find that IM history.

Found it on the office computer and suddenlyu about 30 IMs popped up. Hopefully I can find it on the home computer.
Thanks guys. Thread finished.

I updated the work computer to XP service pack 2 and lost H-T IM's. I turned off everything in windows explorer, turned off the windows firewall, and nothing I did would allow the IM's to come up, even if I clicked on the OPEN IM button. So I removed service pack 2.
I have the Service Pack 2 & they worked. I was using IE & Norton. I now use the Mozilla browser. Still works.

LOL....we have our own admin log-on at work to install programs on our own. They updated everyone in my department to SP 2 except me since I had the problem. They are looking into the glitch and let me know when I can upgrade...
Don't ask me why we need some much security on personal computer at work when we have company firewalls, and our standard log-on wont let any software install on the computer. Not like we need the windows firewall...hehe...
