Default Recommend me a welder... I need an upgrade

Right now I have a 200amp stick welder. Its not that I am not good with it or that its not working but I believe its not the right tool for the job..

And what is the job you might ask ?

I am going to weld up a Lotus 7 Racing car chassis. most of the tubes are 1x1 and 16ga. The thickest metal on the project will be about 12ga on the rear end.

What Mig/ Tig welder will get this done well and not need replacing down the road? I am trying to spend as little as possible on a welder since the things costing a fortune so no welders over $500 please.. I know that a Tig at that rate may be impossible to find... Are there any places that sell used welders?

Ive looked on ebay quite often but never find anything good!

as for the tig, thanks for the link, but 85amps isnt an investment in a tool, its a regret thats going to start sooner than later!

you can turn your stick machine into a tig machine fairly easily. they use the same type of power supply, its a matter of peripherals to get you tigging. I'm not sure exactly what you need but its probably a list like tig torch w/gas valve, argon bottle, regulator, hf starter
