Default Prelude Wanted....what should I look for?

I really want to buy a prelude, esp. the more boxy style type. Ideally I would like a mid 90's black honda prelude, but I want it fast and 5-speed. What do you think I should really look for when buying a used one? Besides miles, year, rust, etc., I'm really talking about what makes it a car...type of motor (not just stock), any mod's, etc...any advice?

p.s. you might have to go into detail about it because I'm not really a car guru quite yet!

haha.. what a n00b.. JK

This is my GF and she drives a Camaro now and has always been an Fbody fan...
I guess she's seen the light and now wants a Prelude. She and I have talked about cars and what's good and what's not so good as far as reliability, speed , and just nice features that come along with them. I guess she hasn't gotten enough info from me and now seeks the help of HT. Im sure that any help would be appreciated

Well, you could maybe find a decent si and turbo it or just spring for a vtec model.

Most likely they will be higher mileage motors unless you find one with a recent jdm swap or rebuild.

For a H22A motor I\H\E will make it a decently quick car, anything after that gets pretty expensive. If you are looking for sheer power your best bet is to pick up an si save a lil since its not a vtec model, rebuild the motor and boost it.

I'm talking more of a later 90's, like 1998-ish style car, with, pardon my non-car terms, with rectangle tail lights...know what I mean?
also, I doubt I'd get a honda that wasn't a VTEC or SI, etc.....
thanks, keep posting!
another question....what would be some mod's that y'all would do to a stock, black, vtec prelude?

so basicly you're looking for a 97-01 body style Prelude aka 5th Gen. Prelude

The boxy style with rectangle tail lights would be a 5th generation (5th gen) prelude, as said above it is a 97-01. As far as moding goes you will have to figure out what you want first like engine mods, suspension, exterior, etc.. I personally like going with suspension first then engine. But getting a nice set of wheels is always on top of my list too. Good luck.
