Anyone race clockwise "rovals" before?
The Milwaukee Mile (aka Homestead) has finally re-done its infield section and should be ready for use in '05 for the first time in 21 years. Like always, the oval racers run counter-clockwise. However, the "roval" layout is run clockwise for some reason. If you saw a pic of the track you'd see that the "roval" uses about 90% of the oval and should be real quick.
So my question is, if a Honda is on this clockwise track, wouldn't you have a good chance of oil starvation up on the banked oval? If you're turning right through a high banked turn, would the oil go down hill towards the passenger side and away from the oil pick up?
I'll see if I can get a pic up of the track layout.

I dunno about oil starvation, but it would sure make me nervous to have my driver's door on the side of the wall.
-travis, who can't understand why he thinks driving ovals are so damned scary but finds oval racing so damned boring.

I think that the oil would go the opposite direction if you're turning.

I havn't done it to see, but i have heard that with a banked oval, and a car with the driver on the left side and a roof, you simply cant see far enough ahead. (unless you are looking through a sunroof or something)
I know that when i ran the EP CRX on the ovals, i was doing a lot of looking out the side window..

i've run on pocono north many times; its run clockwise on the roval.
when you exit thru turn 5 and up the banking correctly, you can literally reach out and touch the wall (wouldn't want to, though, as it's going by at 75 mph)!

ouch...that one hurt travis. FYI didn't spin last event once...which you would have already known but you weren't there...so you must not be HARDCORE
Alrighty then. Well, hopefully I'll get to try it out for the first time next season and we'll see how it goes. I just thought I'd ask just to be sure.

That's awesome, right in my backyard (almost)! Let me know if/when there will be any schools there!
I've driven a roval counter-clockwise only, can't help on that one. (Texas World Speedway)

Yea, it looks just crazy fast! You run damn near the entire oval and then have a couple long chutes back and forth in the middle.
Chris - you should be real close to the new track in Joliet, IL then, right? "Autobahn at Joliet" or something like that - it's right out by ChicagoLand Speedway.

damn that looks like its going to take some nerve to hold speed in the turn in the oval.
can you stay in the gas around the turn or is it not banked that much?
I know at california speedway i can just keep my foot all the way down in the turn in the oval. took a few sessions to be able to get up to doing it though. scary stuff "turning" at 135 mph.

Damn, they've done some serious work, I was just there at the end of June, and none of that was paved, and most wasn't even plotted.

I haven't seen it yet, but yes. I'm probably closer to Blackhawk Farms. Glad to see tracks sprouting up in the area!

It has two tracks that can be made into one big track. However, it's a country club...and VERY expensive to be a member of. However, they will have one of the two tracks open for events (which track depends on week or something).
I think the track looks awesome, but hopefully the price isn't as insane as the membership.

Thanks for the scoop H5/Cheez. The country club in DFW (Motorsport Ranch) was pretty open to renting the place on weekends to clubs. Hopefully this ends up being the same thing (especially if membership wanes, gotta pay the bills!)

I would think that all the lateral G's that are forcing you towards the drivers side would be doing the same to the oil in the pan, as well. I never took the pan off my B18, but the pickup in my D16 is on the left (I'm assuming they're on the same side) would actually force the oil to where you want it. I would think there's more of a concern on the counter-clockwise rovals, with the oil being centrifugally forced away from the pickup. I've done CalSpeedway, too, flat out in 5th through NASCAR 1-2, 130mph on the straight, 120mph through the turn, just drifting out nicely to the the wall on the back straight. Great fun!
I am also looking forward to running 'the Mile' this summer with Midwestern Council in May. I ran the roval at Gateway with MC last year and did not have any problems but it is run opposite of Milwaukee.
OBW- MC is also tentatively running Autobahn twice in '05- once on the short loop and once on the other- they will not rent out the entire facility to run the long course to keep this open for members. Should be fun.
