So i have a new gasket and oil filter, and the 5quart jug of mobile 1.

And i'm thinking to myself... maybe it leeks because of the funny way i dont have a torque wrench and the gasket sat funny last time.

Should i take my car to my family mechanic and just ask them to bolt up my oil pan for me? It would just take 30min or so to drain the oil and replace the pan gasket. Do i need a toruqe wrench on these bolts? Please help, i'm dripping like 30drips a day, lol.

Big question, Do i need a torque wrench to put my oil pan on correctly

you either buy 5 quarts in a large bottle or 5 individual quarts, I hope you buy 5 too, because i certainly hope you put more than 4 in. :rollseyes:

nah, you don't need a torque wrench to change your oil pan gasket. i am pretty **** and use the torque wrench for everything but you don't have too.

more importantly make sure that the mating surface of the block and oil pan is clean and free of any oil gasket residue. while not needed, you can lay a light bead of black rtv to the faces of the gasket, esp. if you see and imperfections on the pan or the block.

most importantly tighten the bolts in an x pattern going from one side of the pan to the other and make three to four passes, hand tight, medium, snug and tight. don't just start at one end and crank the bolts down...

Why would you put more than four quarts in? My D16Z6 takes less than 3.5.

Oh, the bolts on the oilpan are supposed to be like 9 ft./lbs and yes, it is very easy to overtighten these and cause a leak. Of course, you didn't mention which engine you were working on, so I can only assume you're working with a D-series. This is straight from the Helms manual:

did you put any honda bond around the corners?

Just buy a chilton's i only paid 11 dollars for mine a autozone. Its not a hanes but it will do.

 

the "..., hand tight, medium, snug and tight...." method mentioned will do. Clean ur surfaces properly and use the thin bead of black RTv as mentioned also. Be meticulous and ull be fine...

 

Bought a torque wrench sinse it was very cheep. Everything is **** now!
