Cut j1 jumper on ecu to bypass chip, now a/t cel on?
ok so ive been failing smog, opened up my ecu and lo and behold, a chip. so i read through the archives and it said to bypass the chip all i had to do was cut the jumper at j1. so i did that and my car threw code 19, an automatic code, a friend of mine told me that when u cut that jumper, the ecu thinks its an automatic car. but with the jumper its a manual. so i tried to put some solder on and reconnect the jumper, dont think i did too good a job cuz cel still there, and i may have possible melted a small piece of my ecu... should i try to do a better job on reconnecting the jumper? im thinking just get another p72 obd1 gsr ecu... a chip will make me fail smog yeah?
okay reconnected the jumper so my ecu is back to its previous state, no cel lights... but a chip WILL make me fail smog because of all the extra richness it most likely runs?
it wont fail smog as long as its tuned right, or if u use your stock basemap.
as for the jumper problem, when u disconnect j1, the ecu is back to stock without using the chip. I don't know why its throwing code 19, are u sure its not an auto ecu?

ill open it up again tomo to recheck if its an auto or manual ecu. having an auto ecu will mess me up right? but wouldnt my car have run horribly? also the bottom right hand of the ecu is the chip correct? i think its supposed to be a skunk2 program or something. will getting a virgin ecu help me pass smog? if cutting my j1 didnt put my car back to stock ecu status, i think thats a problem
