OT: Well, it looks like the Lancer EVO is actually coming to the US
It might be time to sell the ITR if the Lancer EVO is actually coming...

I just got off the phone with my local Mitsu dealership (we only have 1 here in Omaha
)...anyway, the guy tells me they're ONLY getting 5 of them there. I asked if I could get on a waiting list or something and he said...he's not sure what's going on yet.
He tells me that he's not sure if they're giving prior Mitsu customers first dibs on them.
He said they'll be here in Sept '02 and definately under $30k. I asked AGAIN about the waiting list and he tells me call him back in June. WTF>!?

Will they detune the car like WRX.....I've to wait and see the final
USDM EVO
before I will sell my R.
Anyway, it looks like there's a lot good car to choose in the next 2 year.....EVO, WRX ( STI ) , Type-R ?? and Skyline ??

It's supposed to NOT be detuned other than emissions, etc. I would expect it to have around 280 hp. The salesman I spoke with said 295 hp!!!
The fact is that the JDM Lancer EVO puts out more than it's *advertised* 280 hp.

I'm gonna be a sell-out as well. If prices are under $30K and with me graduating shool soon, hopefully in a few months I can pick one up. Maybe I'll go for the Yellow or Blue one.....
even though is a Mitsushitty!
Anyone have anymore info on this?
I read in another forum that the LA Auto Show will be debuting the EVO?!
http://www.laautoshow.com The website doesn't even mention the EVO though.
Anyone going to it?

I love how history repeats itself.. we had the horsepower war years ago, it died out, now it's starting again
The EVO should be nice, I'd like to see mitsu with a good car again finally.

I know a lot of us would love to jump on this car as soon as it comes to the US, hell lots of people felt the same way about the WRX, but I think it pays to relax and wait a little.
Personally, I would rather just spend some good money and buy the Z06.

I hear ya onyx00, but the fact is the Z06 is approx $50k whereas the EVO is only supposed to be around $30k or just under. Even if the EVO comes as a bit watered down 260 hp...I can guarantee you could bump it up to around 300 hp rather easily.
I'll be pretty impressed if the evo makes it here without too much dilution...price bumping is going to suck tho. Keep your heads tho folks, the same craze preceded the WRX's apperance, and while it's a damn fine car, it's not the best thing on the planet, and neither is the Evo....tim taylor syndrome affects us all, but you don't always need more power. But it will be right for some, and it will definately increase the possibility that the US will start getting all the real goods soon...if acura doesn't bring the new R in pure form, they're pretty stupid.
Maybe Rally will start getting some real coverage. Although i'd hate to think what the networks would do to the coverage "this is brittney spears at the start of the racing in the desert of australia...and it's like really dusty and stuff...oh my god is that a snake!?!"....why can't speedvision replace ABC or CSPAN or something on my cable

Honestly though, I think the EVO is better looking than the new WRX for one, but other than that the AWD will be nice for daily driving (Midwest winters suck). Also, I used to have a turbo'd car before and I do miss the added torque. The EVO or WRX for that matter seems less likely as a vandalism/theft magnet compared to the ITR. How many ITRs have we seen/heard of on this board get STOLEN or VANDALIZED in the past week>!? 5-7?!
That would be one reason to switch cars for me. Sad, but that's how I feel anymore.

"..........don`t always need more power" ???!!!!
WHAT?!
Power is the only reason to own a car. If you don`t care about power you might as well be taking the bus to work.
Maybe "www.soccer-moms.com" would be a better site for you.
Sorry, but in the past few months the need-for-speed disease has set in pretty deep with me. I`m a little touchy.

I think eventually, the WRX/EVO will become just a big a target for theft as the ITR. Think about it...when the ITR first came here, no one knew what it was. Then as it caught on, every ricer found out about it and started wanted a B18C for their civic. Now everyone with a base Impreza or Lancer will want the upmarket 2.0L turbos...if you plan on getting one of these cars, watch out. As long as a car's engine will fit into a less expensive car, you are in danger of being victimized.
That is the drawback of cars like the ITR and these new AWD rockets (which I think will cost more than $30K). It will take a year or so, but with the import scene booming like this, it won't be much longer than that before guys on WRX/EVO boards start going "******* Thieves!

there was an article in SCC a couple months back about the evo VII and how it was coming to the US. Really they said the car was pretty much unreal.
If they want to compete with the WRX they will have to to keep the prices around 24-26k. So if we dont get the abbreviated version of the EVO, and it is in the 276hp(gentlemens rating) trim, it will smoke eveything in and out of its price range. But im sure we'll get the watered down version.
So things are loking up. Hopefully all these manufactuers will realize that there is a market for these cars and send 'em on over.
Skyline, 22B's, EVO's...oh my

Well we are already getting the WRX STi, which will be a bit under $40K. So I think that the coming EVO will probably compete with that, rather than the base WRX.
It's a pretty exciting time for small cars coming up : Type R, WRX, EVO, STi, 350Z, RX8, S2k, Neon (j/k) etc. - fast compact cars are starting to make a comeback.
Maybe we can get a group buy going ...

Cab't wait to see this one happening. Been waiting for the US to finally come out with some big power japanese sports cars again.
Ross ~ I have to disagree with you a little there. I mean...I hardly know ANY Lancer (base model) or Mirage owners that are even remotely interested in the import scene...let alone know any at all. I used to help my friend at his import tuner shop and all we ever saw were Hondas, Toyotas, and DSMs, and VWs it seemed. It's hard to say. The B-series hybrid swap is pretty easy if you know how to use a wrench, so I think that's the major drawback of owning an ITR. I didn't know this hybrid thing would blow up like it did. I love my hybrid, but I honestly have to say I regret that the B18C5 drops in so easily to so many diff Honda/Acuras.
I really don't see theft being the same on a Lancer EVO vs an ITR. Vandalism...yeah maybe, but I think if I DO end up getting one it will be a subtle, sleeper color that I won't try to make look too flashy.

Kids who are 15-20 years old, playing GT3, all know what the Lancer is. Some of them are rich brats will end up having a 280hp version bought for them on their graduation day or something, while the less fortunate will buy an OZ Rally edition, and work their butts off toward a swap - just like Civics and ITRs. If it happened with our cars, there is no reason at all why it can't happen with Subarus or Mitsubishis. And, to counter what you are saying a little bit, I have been ice-grilled many times in my R by some visor-wearing ricer in a Mirage/Lancer/Impreza.
And my guess is that you won't be able to buy a sleeper version - in addition to the wing I am sure there will be many distinguishing characteristics of the EVO from the base model - seats, colors, wheels, bodypanels, etc.
