Integra Guys - Checkit Out . . .
So some of us were at Summit Point and saw the World Challenge/Motorola Cup Integra with the straight out exhaust. I found these pics in the Classified forum. The system is pretty ratty but it has sparked some curiosity in regards to the design. Any thoughts?
Scott/Karl - any reason why this wouldn't be legal for the Challenge?

Running the exhaust directly under the gas tank leads me to believe that this car may do something spectacular soon.
The only fix I see is to install some of these:

b/c heat rises
actually I would guess that running it under the tank allows the heat coming off of the pipe to transfer to a larger section of tank than if only the end of the tank is exposed to the exhaust heat. IMO though, it won't matter too much as this is a race car and is not going to be puttering around in stop and go traffic on 100 degree days in Texas... seems that the benefits would make it a worthwhile mod.

Maybe not right next to it but definately within 2 inches of the tank.
Warren - if I point it straight down I won't be able to put a muffler on and therefore it won't pass sound.

just find some sort of straight through muffler of your desired size (inner diameter) and weld on a mandrel bent downturn, between like 90degrees and 45degrees for an angle of the bend. Thats what RE Amemiya does with their RX7 exhausts when they are on track to keep noise down

Several things...
Most rules state simply that the exhaust must terminate behind the driver. This is a carbon monoxide safety thing.
Noise. Summit Point is the scary one. My car with a straight through exhaust has registered as high as 108dbs. This is over the limit at both Roebling and Summit.
I have planned some changes for my exhaust to try to get below 100dbs. The current plan is to add a 90 degree bend and terminate it in front of the right rear wheel.
Also, I don't like the way that exhaust pictured hangs below the car. You could destroy it in an otherwise harmless off into bumpy terrain. It could also hang up loading on to many trailer designs.
There is a recessed tunnel under the car where the stock exhaust lived. I suggest keeping anything you do in that tunnel.
