Default My CRX.

Ok, heres my CRX story. I flew to NYC back in the summer of 2003. I had a one way ticket to purchase this crx i had checked out online. B16a1, DC sports ceramic coated header, HASport mounts, lowered, and in "good" condition. The images i recieved online had a LOT better paint quality than when i got it, but hey, thats how buying cars online is. So i check the car out, at this point i knew NOTHING about cars. I drive it around with the guy, hit VTEC, and i am basically sold. I pretended not to be very interested, found soem things i didnt like, blah blah blah, ended up walkign away with the car and 1800 bucks less in my pocket. Now i had to learn to drive STD, and what a perfect way to learn how, driving 10 hours home to ohio! In the parkign agarage i stalled it about 5 times, and my uncle who i was staying with started to kind of freak otu since driving in NYC, not knowing how, just doesnt work too well. Ended up stayign an extra nite tryignt o figure out how we were goign to get my *** home. Its not like theres walmart parking lots i can practice at, in queens. So, my mom gives me a pep talk, tells me not to even look at the RPMs (i had been using the RMS as a guide for the clutch) and she tells me its just like riding the dirt bikes we have, just listen to the engine and be slow with it.
Well the enxt day comes and i decide i am going to get up early and go on my own to learn to drive it. Having my uncle there was really makign me nervous; mixing nerves and untrained feet doesnt work well. So i hop in the car and BAM, i am on my way, i am driving around doing perfect, only stalled once and thats cause i was hitting a hill going out of the parking garage. My uncle comes home, i tell him i have learned it and i can be on my way. I take him my aunt and my cousin out for dinenr as a thanks for letting me stay with them, and then i plan on leaving early the next day.
My uncle has me go all the way around manhattan becaus ei guess people there are fucked up and will jump in front of your car just to collect soem money, so i add an extra hour onto my plans. I am doing fine, driving my *** home in my new car, which let me mention had NO STEREO OR CD PLAYER! i had a 11 hour trip ahead of me with no music or anything to do. So i am driving along, i am now in New Jersey, makign my way along on the highway, i switch lanes, i just tap the blinkers, i dont hold them on, the freaking road was empty, keep goign, pass a cop whos radaring, keep on going, get pulled over for not signaling a lane change...........
THEN HE TELLS ME THE CAR IS STOLEN. WHAT THE ****! i show him the title, it dont matter. i goto jail for 6 ******* hours. In this 6 hours i manage to get diarrhea, clog up their toilet and have them think i ditched heroin in it, have my car towed, dropped, and have a wire pull loose from my engine. finally i am let go, find out that it was just a damn computer error, pay the 120 bill for my car being towed, i have to hotwire my own damn car just to be able to go, and now i am on my way.
After what seemed like for ever, i make it home!

Four days later MY ENGINE BLOWS! yep i threw a rod, very fuckign nice. and its not like i just looked and saw i threw a rod, nope, i payed to have it towed to my friends garage. His dad tells me its fucked, it needs to goto a shop. Ok so i tow it to a shop, he tells me it will cost 3000 to fix. **** that, i get it towed back to my house. So far, having owned the car for about 2 weeks, its been towed 4 times! Ok so the car sits in my driveway for about 5 months. Finally i get an awesome hook up from a guy on crxohio, and on crxresource. He comes out, does the ENTIRE engine swap, puts in a d16a6 he has lyign around, and the only cost is my old blown b16. He i guess salvages the head and the ecu, shift linkage, tranny, etc. But anyways, i get a running car for free!
As seen in the old pictures, its got one ******* ulgy bodykit. thats because the BODYKIT IS OVERTOP OF MY ORIGINAL BUMPERS! it is such a riced out fuckign body kit it was just drywall scrwed over top of my bumpers for christs sake. i litterally rip them off, crack that **** in half, and throw it away. The original bumpers are in pretty bad shape, chipping paint all over them and such. I remove soem of the chipping paint, and keep the side skirts for fear of them looking as bad as the frotn and rear bumper covers.
Anyways, on comes more problems. heres the replacements and such i have doen since i got it.

-Complete engine swap, different series motors, so it wasnt just a quick swap.
-CANT PASS EMISSIONS. this sucked, ok i picked up a new "high flow cat," having not known **** abotu cars, i didnt realize this was really just a damned straight pipe. ok so i replace that again with a real catco cat, and pass.
-Rear discs and pads need changed, but i dontknwo **** at this point, waste some money having some one else do it.
-Got rid of my damned semi truck shifter and replace with a shitty ebay one. This thing blows so a couple weeks ago i replaced with a B&M shifter, which i love.
-Got a ticket for the ricer previous owner having had some VERY dark tint. removed it all.
-Come to find out my shift linkage is bent, replace that.
-Put in some 15 dollar 6x9 speakers. Wrong size obviously, ohhwell i just pack them into the hole where the proper size belongs. These were 15 follars, they sucked *** and stopped working. At this point i went out and spend some money on pioneers for the front and back, or the correct size this time. These sound nice, i like em. BTW i got a sony xpload head unit, not that bad.
-New clutch managed to some how have a metal piece just crack off and lodge between the pressure plate and the disc. OK, so i actually ON MY OWN do the clutch job after nevr having worked on a car before. i learned a lot and it was a good feeling doing it myself.
-Umm distributor cap needed replaced.
-Fixed my shitty idle.
-Cleaned out my TB, so now i can actualyl just give it a little gas instead of it sticking and either idleing or beign at 2000.
-Replaced the tubeless intake, which was just a filter connected to the TB, damn previous owner.
-Replaced the riced out rear piece which sits between the brake lights. Previous owner painted it white to match the exterior, ******* ricer.
-Removed the whale tail spoiler which looked nice, but was in blue for some reason. Eh, my friend moved and i had left it in the garage, so i no longer have it, but i do have the nice holes from it, aswell as holes form the previous owner i guess likign those ricer aluminum wings.
-I have cleaned the hell out of the interior, and it is near mint, except for the seat belt holes which end up in the doors. Also the previous owner decided to cut 2 inch hole sin each door to mount tweeters, i gotta get soem to fill it, cause it looks like ****.
-Replaced the passenger window crank which was missing in action.
-Replaced the turn signals which were from liek a 94 civic or some ****, cause they completely didnt fit. He jst threw them in the holes and once again used some nifty drywall screws.
-Replaced the rear hatch interior pieces which were missing
-Replaced the rear wiper motor.
-Fixed the passenger wiper, which the bolt had been stripped.
-New wheels and tires.

still need-
-camber kit
-axels. i dont feel like rebuilding the CV joints which are bad, so i am just gonna throw on soem good condition axels.
-a few interior pieces to replace the cracked ones i have
-secret compartment doesnt lock, gotta fix that.
-theres no grips on the brake and clutch pedals.
-dime sized rust on the rear 1/3 panel on drivers side. also rust on the sun roof.
-might throw on a resonator, the Tanabe Medallion Racing exhaust is pretty damn loud.
-New ground wires.
-Replace radiator mounting brackets.
-Ehh engine is leaking oil, no oil in the coolant, but it looks liek its coming from the head gasket area.......
-Rear defroster grid needs touched up. thanks to my GF for helping remove window tint, lol.
Ehh other than that i think shes in good shape.
Heres some quick before and after pics.

eh, the bad luck ended up helping me in the long run. Having helped out on an engine swap, and doing my own clutch job, now i think i can do just about ANY repair on my own. Ohh i left out the main relay swap too. But my favorite was the clutch job. I was quoted 700 as the lowest in my area. i bought 400 dollars worth of some real nice tools, and got the clutch for 20 bucks from a friend, now i've got all the tools i need and it cost me half the price of having a shop do it. the information i learned was definately worth it too.

About that, did you happen to check your valve cover gasket? I would think any bad head gasket would leak coolant. Leakage from the valve cover gasket is more of a frequent event.

yeah dude i agree, i am just kinda scared to take them off because of all the holes its gonna have. I am waiting till spring to fulyl remove it, so that salt/snow doesnt find its way into any fun little holes. Before waiting till spring i am considering painting it to match the black sections of the bumpers, just somehtign to make it not stant otu so much.

My friend and I put that same kit on his CRX. It looks bad *** if installed and painted correctly. It was a lot of work to get his to look decent, so it was probably better that you threw it out. Nice ride and good luck!

i dont care for the black skirts, id either pull the kit off, or keep the side skirts and get the wings west front and rear bumper!

I would have pressed charges against the police department. Whether I had a case or not. I also who have tried to make them pay for all the towing bills and repairs to the engine harness.

I don't think cops are bad (like everyone else on H-T) I just think that having your car ruined, being held up in Jail for 6 hours, being accused of hiding heroine and still having to pay 120$ fee is all for a "computer error" is a serious violation of rights... I'm sure there's a lawyer out there that is DYING to hear from you.

I'll have to do some digging to find some finished pics. The pics from the website don't look that bad though.

Keep in mind, that yellow would make almost any car look like ****. His is straight black wiht a CF hood, mirrors and spoiler. The spoiler is a CF knockoff of the one in the pics that he bought (I think) from GTP. I'll see if I can find pics of his car.
