belt tensioner location.
i recently noticed a squeek squeek that sound like a worn belt last night. it only comes on when the heater is on @ idle (as far as i can tell, i may be wrong--i dunno if i can hear it over my exhaust.) is there a tightening bolt, like my alternater belt adjusting screw, for this belt?
Also i noticed that as i turn on the heater, the dash temporarily dims, then comes back no problems..... took me two years to notice.. is this supposed to happen? thanks.

Actually, it sounds like your alternator. What belt were you thinking it was? Your alternator will have more resistance as the electrical load goes up (such as turning on your heater motor) and could make the belt slip and your lights dim as well. Try checking the tension of it. If it's hard, it may just need to be replaced. It's also possible that the squeek is the alternator itself.
yea i realized it is my alternator belt, it slips when its cold. now im confused......... left to loosen the belt right to tighten..... right? my friend called me the other day when he snapped his alternator mount in half from tightening it the wrong way........ i wont wanna do that very much.
belts slip and make that squeek becuase they wear down. when they wear down they create a dust which gets in between the belt and the pullie.
with how easy it is to change that belt i would just take it off, wipe down the pullies and then put the new one on.

Tighten it up and see what happens. However, if it's been slipping for a while then it will be glazed and it's gonna slip no matter what until you change it. I believe there should be about 1/4" deflection at the middle of the widest span when you tighten.
