Default Rain Race Tire Question

I have a set of half used Azenis tires and I was thinking I could use these as my rain tires on my stock 95 5 blade GSR rims. Any opinions on these tires as rains or should I just spend the money on a set of hoosier rains or something? What about fitting the azenis on my 15 X 6 stock rims? is this a good idea? I would think that it would be too tight on a 6" rim. Perhaps I should just sell my stockers and buy another set of rain rims and tires. Any opinions?

Thanks!

I know they are good in the rain, but I am talking about track use not street use.

Speed scale, from slow to fast:

Street tyre
Azenis
Fulll tread DOT R tyre
Hoosier Rains/Dirt Stocker

If you don't want to drop the change for a set of Radial Rains or Dirt Stockers, the Kumho ECSTA V700 at full tread is a really good rain tire and it can survive drying conditions better than a rain tire. I wouldn't use them for anything else. RA1's are another good choice but they're a little bit harder.

I wouldn't want a set of worn Azenis for full-on downpour use but some tread is better than none and if you're on something serious for your dry tires they'll have less than none.

Azenis are better than just about any street tire in the wet, IMO and the price is certainly right.

If the azenis are fine, then what do you think about putting 20/50/15's on 15 X 6" stock GSR rims?

They will feel.. 'mushy', the steering response isnt as good as on a 7" wheel but it works.

Use your full tread race tire as a rain tire. I made the mistake this year of thinking of using a street tire as a rain tire. It just is not fast enough, even in the rain and worse once the track dries midway through a session it is really slow... well maybe not slow, just the car feels so much different on a street tire than race tire, I wasn't fast. As suggested above, use the Ecsta V700 or whatever full tread race tire of your choice.

Remember there are rains and there are RAINS !!!

Full tread Kumhos or Toyos are good for intermediates....but for a real tire you need Dirt Stockers in the rain...or the newer Hoosier DOT rains...

oh by the way I have a set of Dirt stockers on Team Dynamic wheels for sale.....

$650 plus freight all balanced and ready to slap on the car.....

this was not meant to be a cheap sales tool......soory ...

That's true, Hoosier is really the only company that offers DOT rains right now.

Have they come out with a non-retarded 15" radial size yet?
