I know this might be hard to understand, but here's a breakdown:

1) driving at 70 in 5th gear
2) car shudders and it feels as if i've lost power
3) car feels as if it's in neutral, even though i'm still in 5th
4) i rev the car to 5k to see if it accelerates, yet it's as if i'm in neutral
5) car slowly coasts to a stop
6) i shut off the car, now it doesn't start


I know for a fact that my distributor was making a squeaking sound. It had been getting progressively louder, but it was sporadic so i thought i had a few more weeks to fix the problem. Could the distributor be it? For a fact i knew that my clutch was fine because i was able to downshift with ease.


And there aren't any codes thrown btw. I'm guessing that the distributor might have stopped sending enough of a charge to the plugs for detonation to occur. So maybe when i was revving the car, not all four of the cylinders were getting enough spark, thus a huge loss of power.

 

ya definatly check it, i just had that happen to me a few weeks ago, my crx was pretty much doing the same stuff you described and i got a new distributor and it fixed it
