Gauge Cluster Question
If i get a type R gauge cluster used, can i switch out the odometer with my current one so i keep MY mileage? Also if i swap it out, will the lights be amber or white? And if they are amber, is there a way to retain the factory white illumination that comes on the GSR cluster?
yes you can switch the odometer/speedo but you have to take the speedometer needle off to do so and then you will need to get it calibrated back to the right position, i think the red light for the R is just from red bulbs instead of white
You can roll the odometer on the new cluster to match your current miles. It's NOT easy though. It's really pretty tricky to try to get all of the numbers to line up perfectly after screwing around with it. My advice is to not touch the odometer.
And... the bulbs in the ITR cluster are white. The amber color is NOT from the bulbs.

well if the mileage is somewhat close to mine, then i won't touch it. But if it says like 50k plus that a little outrageous since i only have 3700 miles on my car.
cotton_lix: by setting the needle what do you mean? Is there a button you can press, i'm confused.

me and a friend did that same thing with using cellphones to "adjust" his, here is what we did, pulled it off, i got going 75 and set cruise, he got even and set his cruise then put the needle on pointing at 75. there is still room for error so if you want it perfect go to a speedo shop.
Well... another way to do the speedo.
When you pull the needle off of the peg with the car on... it'll go somewhere... remember EXACTLY where this is and put the needle back on in the same position.
You can also remember what speed is at what RPMs in what gear. eg. 80mph is ~ 4000rpm in 5th. Drive at 4000 rpm in 5th and stick the needle on pointing at 80.
