b18c swap on 91 civic hatch?
What do i need to pass CA smog if i swap a b18c1 on a 91 hatch? Im asking this question for my friend because hes just worried about smog? any input on whats the best enging to swap in it so he can have a little more power and still pass smog..?
Needs to be OBD-1 and contain all functioning emissions equipment that the GSR had. Also, it helps if it is clean within the bay and everything looks OEM. If you look around this forum there have been a couple of members who have just recently BARed there motors.
You want a 94/95 GSR motor and will have to convert to OBD1.
Using the (carb legal) Skunk 2 intake manifold gives more room between the engine and firewall, but it's been done with the stock GSR manifold also.
It's not really hard, but EVERYTHING has to be "legal" to the engine.
Doing a B16 isn't really any easier due to the fact that you would have to set it up as a 94/94 Del Sol engine.

you can use jdm motors but you have to make the car/engine OBD1 compliant. if you go B16a and want to make it as easy as possible use a 94-95 delsol dohc vtec swap or a jdm 2nd gen swap with the hydro trans and OBD1 parts. if you go gsr same rule applies.
