Default 99 Civic Upgrade

My wife is now complaining about the lack of power in her 1999 Honda Civic LX 4-door w/ stick shift.

I added a cold-air intake to her car last year, but that didn't really seem to do much.

What mods/upgrades can I perform on her engine to help pep it up, without busting the bank?

Are there good cam upgrades for her SOHC engine?

She was also complaining about the lack of ABS in a recent rainstorm we had. Is it possible to yank a complete ABS setup from an EX from the same year, and transplant it onto the LX? I know it would require sensors, computer, and probably everything in between, but it is doable?

Also, are there any final mods you would make to this car to help her enjoy it and want to keep it for a bit longer?

It's paid off, and I really don't want her to go buy a new one right now.

Thanks.

BTW: Just so you don't think I am car stupid, here is MY project car.

Mini-me should run you around $400. I just finished swapping the head over this evening on my 99dx. I just gotta wire up the vtec and knock sensor now. A d16y8 tranny will also help.

>I hate to sound stupid, but what exactly is a "mini me" swap?
>
>Is that a Dr. Evil approved mod?

Found it!

Best option for you is the complete head & intake manifold setup from a 96-00 Civic EX.

However, anyone (like myself) who has messed with the Y7 will tell you the best performance per dollar mod is the change to the 96-00 EX transmission. Not very expensive but very effective.

About how much would you think it would cost for the new tranny?

Is it a manual or automatic transmission?

Can you swap an automatic into a Civic that had a manual? LOL!

Ugh! I thought you wanted to go faster, not slower!!!

Obviously I'm referring to the 5-speed manual tranny that was available on the EX model. Also, trannies from the 92-95 EX & Si will work. You currently have a manual trans so stick with that.

Don't buy a new tranny, that would be outrageously priced. You can often find them used for $200 or less.

Sorry when I said "new", I mean "new" at the local pick-and-pull.
