Hi everyone, i'm new here, currently drive a 1986 Corolla GTS coupe and i've got a project ae86 hatch going, so i'm looking for a good daily car with good gas mileage, cause my corolla is not very good for that.

I've found someone near me with a 1992 Dx hatch and it looks pretty good in the pictures, says it has 196k km on the body and 120k km on the motor, a ZC SOHC and a 2.5 inch catback exhaust. A bit of bubbling on the rear quarters and he's got a bunch of extra parts he can toss in with it.

Can anyone give me any pointers on what to look for when i'm checking it out? problem areas, that kind of thing, also any info on the motor and whatnot? Cause i'm used to RWD, so FWD is a new thing for me.

look for the obvious , the"bubbling"" and since its got 196k take a look underneath the car and how much is he selling it for

 

If you're worried about appearance, rust usually forms on the 92-95's right behind the wheel on the rear quarter panel. Otherwise, see how well he has kept up on maintenance, and if he's done a good job go for it. Also, make sure he's done the timing belt/water pump unless you plan to.

check for the basics before anything...leaks, clutch, check if the engine is burning oil...things of that sort did you take it for a test drive yet??
