Skunk2 stage 2 cams....questions...done search
im thinking about getting these cams for my b18c setup...right now im still at stock compression so im going to bump the compression when im putting them to recommeded...with jdm itrs or p30s...are these cams good for daily driving?...how is the idle and are they hard to tune?....ive read some info on them but want to know more.....plus would i need ported head to maximize the cams or anything like that?....i want a good daily driver with some power without having to port the head and alot of machine work....thanks
I have those skunk2 stage2 cams in my gsr daily driven. You don't have to port the head any to make them fit unless you want to do the head for more power. You will need springs and retainers I have skunk2 and don't have a problem with them. You might need a higher compresion piston to get the power you want out of those cams. I'm running je 12:5:1 with those cams+other mods and my teg was beast.
thank you for your input...yes i know i will need the valvetrain also...what did you use as of management....hondata?...vafc?...hard to tune?.....i will basically have the rest of the bolt on mods like intake, intake manifold, headers, fuel regulator, etc....i use my car quite often so i want a streetable but okay power car....i dont go to the track very often...might go more once setup is done....i dont do any illegal racing....just like the thrill and feel of power...i was looking into ctr cams but im afraid once i get them, i will want bigger cams too soon anyways...ive read many good things about the ctrs but does anyone have any first hand experience using both?....should i go with ctrs and will i be happy with them since this is a daily driver?....any input would be greatly appreciated...pros and cons of ctr compared to s2s2...im thinking they would be easier to tune because not aggressive and maybe stock valvetrain can be attained...thats what i read so far...thanks again guys
plus...i know there is a great difference in performance between these cams...not even be comparable because they are different levels....maybe it might be best though if i start off small then go bigger later...im not sure yet....i know i can always sell the ctrs for pretty good money and upgrade later...im kinda a noob so please help me out with advice...where should i start?
the setup i plan to run is a fairly mild daily driven gsr setup....just basically stock bottom with p30 pistons to bump the compression....stock head with aftermarket cams, retainers, springs...the rest just bolt ons like i/im/h/e, fpr, and probably vafc...thats what im looking for as of now....machine work like p&p might come later....will the s2s2 be good for this setup?....ive read they should idle like stock....how does the powerband compare to the buddy club IIIs and ctrs?...i know top end kills them both but how does lower and mid compare?....also are the cams hard to tune to get them idling like stock?....anyone with first hand experience would help

Your recommendations/suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated for my setup:
JDM B16A SIR II
Skunk2 Stage 2 cams
Skunk2 valves
Skunk2 dual valve springs
Skunk2 titanium retainers
Skunk2 adjustable cam gears
As of right now funding will not allow for upgrading pistons/rods
I won't be installing this anytime soon bc I don't actually have the cams yet, but I have everything else. I've been researching tons about what setups poeple are running that are similar. I know that I should run higher compression to "get the most out of these cams", but like I said, I said, I just don't have the money. ANYWAY! My point is should I be upgrading my fuel and ignition system? I've heard that it's good to upgrade fuel (pump/rail/injectors), but most poeple say you can use your stock ignition.
Of course management is another key issue.
Well I won't make this any longer, there's a million more questions I could write, but I'll just leave it at this and wait to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your advice!

I also have a B16 and im ready to swap in my s2s2 as soon as my springs and retainers arrive. Im currently using a VAFC but im switiching to hondata when i do the cam swap. I dont have a really high compression so maybe ill just shave a little of the head. Most people here think that ill be overcamming my motor, but since i dont have the budget yet to touch the block, ill do it anyway!
