where to autox in new england?
i'd like to get into autox or taking my car out on a track but i dont really know where to start looking. it seems like all the good clubs/tracks are in fl, the midwest or out on the west coast. anyone from new england into autox? where do u go? what sort of clubs are there? also anyone know of any good road tracks in the ne area? everything i seem to find is just oval tracks or minature tracks.

There's plenty to do up here autocross-wise IN SEASON. Check out these links. We're done for this year, but will start up again in April 2005. I imagine a schedule will be posted soon.
NER-SCCA = http://www.ner.org This covers Autocrosses, Road Racing, Rally-X, and Rally. There are also links to other clubs on this site. http://www.ner.org/internet/otherclubs.html Loks like a pretty comprehensive list to me.
Feel free to IM me if you have specific questions.

I see you're in Worcester (so am I), so you should have some good oportunities next season to get some AutoX time in.
NER runs quite a few of it's events at Devens airforce base, in Ayer. It's off of Rt2, and about 1/2 hour drive. NHIS is about 2 hours, but it's a good site, and I think all the events this season were sat / sun, so you could stay overnight and get two days in.
There are a few close OOR events as well. http://www.fcscc.com/ runs outside of Hartford, and it's events are pretty well run for the most part.
You can also check here: http://www.autocross.com/autoc/neclub.shtml Cumberland Motor Club puts on good events, but Portland is a bit far. Same goes for SCCA MoHud and New York regions, but I'll make the drives to get more seat time.

When its in season, the complete schedule includes many sites in the area. Limerock Park and NHIS are the only two tracks that I know of in the area.

As Diane found out at the end of last year when she moved... auto-x ENDS up here in October.
You have a whole winter to plan for the next season.
NER SCCA is one club that runs at Devens. Then there's the Boston BMW club (http://www.boston-bmwcca.org) (Need to be a member and pre-register) that let's non-BMWs play. SHO Club (Don't have URL) also at Devens. New England Sports Car Club (http://www.nescc.org) will have 2005 dates. There's also a couple Miata clubs that allow non-miatae to play.
But again... that's April.
I'd suggest on starting to read up on what to do and what to expect at an auto-x provided at the link in the FAQ at the top of the page.

Is this where they do the snow cross as well? I'm thinking I might try it, but they didn't give much info on their site about it.

It is a bit bumpy, but I don't have any problems with 500 lb springs in a 2400 lb car there. The 'Vettes scrape their front lip occasionally on the far back side of the course, high speed under braking with a big bump really works the front suspension, but I think the lot is fun. A bit more challenging with all the sand and **** than a normal, groomed lot is
May be a bit of a drive for you, but check out the Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club.

We do several auto-x events a year in Montgomery, NY and one or two track days at Pocono, PA.

LOL... looks like the nose of the car ran into the ground and stopped it suddenly (except for the lack of dent in the bumper). Look how high the rear is off the wheels. Wow.

lol - over crest, right 60, tightens....
That's what I thought of that course, but it was fun. Hitting a crest along the back right before a right turn and having to deal with the car settling in time to brake was a blast.
Starting off with a 1/8 mile straightaway with no slalom in sight was a bit strange too.

This was one course... They had a 90 degree start into a straight... top of 2nd before the 1st turn left. Trail brake, back end steps out around the turn (WOT now) and while going a little sideways, you hit the 1st 'yump'.
So... left 2 don't cut opens over yump.
There's going to be a winter rally-x at Stafford Springs raceway in CT (in the lot) on the 22nd of Jan. I'll be co-driving a buddy of mines STi. Hopefully, there'll be snow on the ground... if not... HARD dirt.
