It is not true. It will, in fact, extend the life of your engine, but, your engine doesn't have enough miles to need the extra protection. Your call I guess, and I'm sure many other HT-ers will chime in as well.
wow, so you really think that he shouldnt be using synthetic oil...my car is at 43k and i've been using synthetic oil since 20k...and i'm going to change my oil again this weekend and using 0w-30...

hmmm. I guess it's personal prefrance. I'm still using standard oil at 82xxx, but then again, I do too much driving to warrant the cost of someting I'll just throw away less than a month later... It's not that I'm against it, I just don't think that it's quite cost effective, but, to each their own, and to those who don't drive 1000 miles a week.

Synthetic motor oil is superior to standard oil in every way. The sooner you start using it the sooner you start extending the life of you motor. There is no reason to wait to start using synthetic, and actually the longer you wait the more likely you might have problems later when you decide to switch. I have used Mobil 1 for years now I love it, if your using a standard oil now, you should be able to tell a difference with synthetic from the first turn of the key. If you cannot then you dont know your car very well. My only gripe about synthetic is that its likes to magically disapear. I really dont have an answer but even my GF's 2001 Cavi which has had mobil 1 since she bought it off the lot will come up a little short when its time to change the oil. I dont have a problem with this as Im a car guy, and I check oil, fluids, brakes etc.. regularly, so topping it off every now and then is not a big deal to me.
To each his own but to think standard oil it better than synthetic, is a wrong. Its been proven numerous times.

I think the rule of thumb is don't use synthetic oil during engine break-in as your engine will never "wear in" properly if you use synthetic too early.
In your case, you're not too early. I think you only really have to wait about 2000-4000 miles before you switch...
Synthetic is actually good for your engine and helps prevent premature wear on engine internals... Synthetic Oil

By using synthetic motor oil. You get a little bit more torque not alot but enough where you can feel it. Your engine will definately sound different after a long period of use. You also have the option to do oil change instead of doing 3 months you can extend to 6 months, 8 mths, or even a year. To do the longer oil change you have to buy a heavy duty oil filter.
Don't buy the Fram X2 waste of money. Go for like Fram ToughGuard it has better protection than their X2.

people say that higher mileage engines that have always used conventional oil have a carbon buildup, and switching to synthetic can break down these buildups and cause oil leakage. is that true?
on btw: some noob question..B18C1 engine take 4.2qt.. so how much is it? 4 qt and half? or 1/5 ? thanks for good info's// *picture will help me alot*

omg man....if you fill b18c1 with 4.2 qts it will fills up to the head of the block...j/k
yes u can use synthetic with no np FOR SURE, but pricey....4qt x $5 + filter + tax =28
do normal oil, but change at 2,000 mile, 4qt x $2 + filter + tax = 15.....save money and ur engine runs good for life...
helms manual says 3.7
but i measured mine about 3.6-3.8 (very close)
prelude barely use 4.2qt...and it has 2.2L engine

Yea my gsr manual said 4.2 as well I believe, and that was way too much. Now when I do changes I just keep pouring and check the dipstick ever .5 quart when I get around 3. Can't go wrong that way.

i think ur car wasn't level when u drain the oil. my take 4 1/4 qt easily.

yes it does make a difference. i've used a lot of oils...like redline, royal purple, quakerstate, valve-o-line, penzoil, castrol, etc. and the 2 that i like best are the mobil one synthetic and the royal purple synthetic(cuz it's purple! j/k). but i've been using mobil one for a while now.

i've used mobil1 synthetic in my last 3 hondas and i live by it.....i use 10w30 mobil1 in my gsr w/95k miles and it runs like brand new and compression #s are perfect......ive gone up to 7k miles on the gsr btw changes and everthing was fine.....oil looked (tasted, jk)and smelled the same as when i change at 3k miles....so, i usually change it at about 4500 miles....ive heard that you can go 10k miles w/out a problem w/that oil though...its def good stuff!
mobil1 !
mobil1 !
i have a turbo gsr with 135000 miles and never used synthetic can i use it now?and i also heard that u cant be going back n forth..and i put in 4.6qts!..and the dipstick is always perfect on the second dot..what do u guys think about synthetic mixes like the half n halfs??

I been buying Mobil 1 from Walmart for the past couple of years too. I switch to mobil 1, 5w-30 on my rsx-s at 10k miles. Honestly to tell you the truth, I don't feel any difference. Only difference it makes is that I feel "mentally" better when I'm driving the car hard or like a mad man. I'm not complaining since 5qts of mobil 1 and a filter cost like $25, the same price I pay for a standard conventional oil change at a shop. On my other car, a 94gsr with 133k miles, I been running it on regular conventional oil since I got it...no point in switching now to synthetic, plus it drives just fine.
I will tell you to go for it, but you should use 5w-30 mobil 1, not 10w-30 mobil 1 with your mileage.
