4-2-1 headers or 4-1
im deciding on what type of headers to get. its either the DC 4-2-1, 1 piece headers or the DC 4-1 headers, i've read that 4-2-1 has better low and mid range power and 4-1 has mid and top end power (correct me if im wrong). i want whats best for acceleration. i have a 96 gsr pretty much stock all i have is a greddy trust exhaust and stage 1 exedy clutch, and polyurethane mount inserts. my future plans after the headers are intake maniforld, intake, valvetrain (camshafts, valves, retainers, etc) and whatever else after

If I had to take my oil pan off for whatever reason, I wouldn't want to waste my time unbolting it from the head. If I was in your position, I would get a 2 piece... that's just my $.02...

honestly you probably won't feel a difference between the two, its just a matter of choice: low/mid or mid/high, you just can't get improvements at all 3 at the same time. at least not with just a header.

what he means is that if he has to take off the oil pan, he doesnt want to have to unbolt the header from the head. so if he gets a 2 piece, he can just unbolt the lower half.

haha.. your .02 isnt worth very much

lol, how often do you take off your oil pan????
get the 4-1, better potential, won't limit you is you decide to go more aggressive in the future, and the strength of honda's is the upper rpm's so the best bang for buck is to concentrate there.

get 4-1, if your car isn't dropped over 2". 4-1 does hang quite a bit lower than 4-2-1, but it has overall better high rpm gain (where your honda makes the most power anyways). I don't have any dents on my 4-1 header, just scratches and my car is drop 1.75".
i liked my 4-1 mugen header and i too scratched the bottom of although im changing things up right now so if your in the market for a 4-1 i have my mugen ss header w/2.5 inch collector
i have the 4-1 ceramic. i lost all my low end torque, and now i also have a dented header. i keeps on scraping.
not only that, i also have a 2.75 in catback and an RS muffler. with iceman intake.
i felt a big loss in power when i installed the 4-1 over my stock.
keep in mind that this is a butt dyno.
to install, i had to take out the radiator fan. cuz i got the 1 piece version.
im looking for a 4-2-1 header now.
a cop pull me over once and asked to look under my hood. he told me my intake and headers were illegal until i pointed out the CARB sticker and CARB badge.

Well before you go spending money on a new header, maybe you should use a real dyno so you actually see the upper rpm gains. I'm sure yuo know that gains in the upper RPMs are much harder to notice with the "butt dyno"
Just a thought.

It's not about fitment or scraping, it's about getting the most usable power like you said. A 4-1 will sacrifice low end torque to make power at high revs but, assuming you have a stock rev limiter, you won't benefit too much from that. Besides, how much time do you spend above 7,000 RPM anyway? You should probably go with a 4-2-1 if you drive on the street mostly and spend more tim between 3,000 and 6,000 RPM than you do between 7,000 and 10,000. If it is an all out race car, definately go with the 4-1, and get a free flow cat too.
it's all about your goals, if your goals are just basic bolt-ons and stop there, then the 4-2-1 is your best bet,
but if your goals are a little bigger, like upping CR, getting cams, raising redline etc, then the DC 4-2-1 is a total waste of money cause it will choke your top end and limit your peak/upper rpm power.
