HELP!!!!!!!!!!Engine wont turn over
I have a 89 honda civic. SOHC 16 valve. I just got new battery, and sparkplugs. I have power to everything, but the engine wont turn over. I picked up this car for $300 and havent heard it run yet, it needed a battery. The oil light is on, check engine light comes on for like 5 seconds, and battery light. I checked the ground from the valve cover to the body, thats fine. Its like not sending power to the starter.. Need some help plz!!
i think you said it isn't cranking at all. but the rest of the electronics are working.
(lights, fans, you can hear the fuel pump prime on key...)
check the ground again.
get a multimeter. see if the starter is getting power. you can check the grounds here too w/ the meter and also check if the power wire is shorted, but since i'm assuming you are new to electical **** (i'm not a veteran, so anone else who reads this feel free to edit) don't worry about it now. if the multimeter is still confusing, you can just pull the starter to test, but you might waste a lot of time.
if it is getting power, take it out and get it tested (autozone, etc. do it for free)
if it's dead, buy a new one and put it in. start yer car.
if it isn't getting power, post, and we'll go from there.
you can still try pop starting it to see if evertyhing else works. that's a decent "in the lot ghetto" technique. 2nd gear, clutch in. friends push till yer going along, let out clutch. don't pop the hell out of it the first time in case anything else is wrong w/ the motor (right john
), but you need to let it out fast enough to start the car and not just stop it w/ compression.

Yeah i think its not getting power..I called my moms b/f he is bringing his multimeter over later 2night. Ill post it up with what i find. Thanks for the help.
Found the problem..Someone cut the ******* ignition wire. It had to own been the previous owner becuase the car is in my garage... 4 car garage 2 doors, 1 big door in the back, all stay locked up.
nice. glad it worked out.
also glad you went the trace/multimeter route, rather than the "pull it off and test, process of elimination route".
how's it run?
