Brake Shake ( brake issues; shaking ) and BAD GAS MILEAGE QUESTION!
My Brakes are shaking like hell when I press the pedal from speeds around 50 and under. If I am on the interstate, doing 80 or so and hit the brakes it doesnt shake. It also doesnt shake when i downshift and let the car slow itself down. Why does this happen? I tried the search function under brake/brakes and nothing came up on the three pages, so I could use some help. Does anyone else have this problem? I have a 91 Si CRX w/ a b16 and as far as brakes go, I have slotted and drilled rotors in the back, and regular ones in the front, ss brake lines and good axis pads. The shake is only in the front and seems to be more on the drivers side. Could some stuff be loose from a bastard mechanic replacing my shocks/ strutts, and not retightening everything to spec? Why would it only happen at low speeds?
And, I am getting seriously bad gas mileage, like 210 to a tank of 93 gas. I have the b16a, and no fuel adjusters other than a fpr, wihtout a guage. I dont think my computer is chipped, but would that make a difference? what can i do to sort this out, its killing me with the gas prices down here! WHere should i start looking for problems on the fuel issue? Thanks for the help guys!!!!!

shaking under braking reagrdless of speed is a sign of warped rotors. as far as the gas mileage goes, believe it or not thats about average.
depends how warped the rotors are. I've driven cars where the shaking is so bad it feels like a wheel is about to come off. I'd get the brakes checked first.
U can take your rotors off and have tehm resurfaced for like 10 bucks. Or you can go and buy a set of rotors for pretty cheap. When you do make sure you bed them in properly and use a torque wrench to torque you lugs properly.

Whats the torque setting on the wheels for a 91 CRX, and Is it really only ten bucks to get your rotors resurfaced? Will most brake shops do it for ten bucks, and is that if I bring them the rotors off the car? What would the syptoms of loose suspinsion stuff be? thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st measure rotor runout then determine if it is serviceable or not. dont waste 10 resurfacing it, might not solve the problem.
if rotor is fine, then start by inspecting the axels. might just be a loose axle bearings. same syntomns as warp rotors
i think its 80 lbs ft. for lugz

80 lbs is what I torque mine too. I don't think it would be the axle if it only does it while braking. Maybe a cracked brake pad or warped rotor. Just take the wheel off and check everything out.
i was also getting terrrible gas milage, then after searching here on HT i learned that the PCV valve can affect it, as well as the fuel filter.
the pcv was like 6 bucks at autozone, i think the filter was like 20-30 bucks, my milage shot up after i did both of them, so id highly reccomend it.
the pcv is on top of the manifold behind the valve cover, under the injectors. it has a hose plugged into it, its a small L shaped piece of plastic.
good luck
