1990 Integra B16A
I bought a 1990 integra about a year ago that has a b16a swap. Everyone that rides in it says it is fast, but not as fast as it should be. One person says it doesnt seem like V-tec is kicking in all the way. My boyfriend thinks that something is wired into the ECU wrong. It also needs it valves adjusted. Does anybody have any idea as what i can do to figure out what exactly is wrong?
Well, it could be a variety of things, but it's not like vtec is going to be that noticeable in a B16A. The vtec engagement is very different in a B16a than that found in a B18C for instance, so you might notice a slight change in noise and ability to accelerate (engagement point will be different depending on what ECU is being used) but it won't throw you back in your seat.
vtec either activates, or does not, it can't partially come on. Another thing that could hurt acceleration is the type of transmission you are using. Most people who get B16s also swap in a gsr ys1 or 88-91 b16 tranny. If you are still using the old y1 cable tranny that came in the car, odds are the gears are so long that you aren't getting the full potential out of the motor.
for vtec to engage, you need good oil pressure, the solenoid needs to be working, and the car has to be warmed up. Also, there are several Check Engine lights that will not allow your vtec to function, but I am assuming you have no CEL.
If you provide more info, someone will be able to help.

what ecu are you running? Did the repin the ecu harness right. There are some pins that have to be moved around on 90-91 DA tegs. I know cause i have the same motor in my car.
purplegsr .
VTec is noticeable if you want to me to prove it take a ride down to miami. The LS trany is A1 for 90-91 tegs Y1 is a JDM b16 trany. Y1,S1,J1 are 89-90 B16 cable tranys.

I think S1 can also be a 90-91 LS tranny, I always get the letters mixed up for S1/YS1/Y1/A1 and which year they went with. The early 90s were a confusing time for Hondas. and don't worry, I know what vtec feels like, I have owned a D16, a B16A, a B18C, and now a B18A. Anyway, my point was that if they can tell it's coming on, vtec is probably not the problem.

if it was the ecu it would throw a cel
