Picture of the 20%+ Blow-by Cylinder in my H22A4 - Comments?
Ok,
So I'm preparing my swap from an H22A4 to and H22A. I decided that I just had to see how screwed up #4 is... and guess what: It's not really.

You can see some light scarring on the top of the cylinder. If you take your fingernail to it... it's rough... but not horrible.
I suspect this block can be honed and new rings put on #4.
It's really wild that that little bit of scarring is causing me to burn 1 QT every 800 miles! Maybe I've got a cracked ring or something??
Thoughts??

Huh interesting . . . . So do you no longer think your valve seals are contributing at all to the oil loss?
I'm no expert, but it looks like a fresh hone & ring set would take of that . . . .

i would say you have a messed up ring, either it just never seated properly or its cracked, or when it was assembled the gaps weren't correctly offset,
even more possible is the cylinder is egg shaped from a sever over heat, where the top get tighter , which could cause the scaring near the top, and then the middle bows outward
just guesses though, you would have to get in there with a feeler gauge

Ok... Well, the unit never overheated. Ever.

In fact, the car has always burned oil and it's gotten worse over the years.
One of the things that's suprised my as we transfered all of the OBD-II parts from the H22A4 to the H22A, is that the block is labeled "BBBB."
So I've got all oversized pistons in that H22A4.
Based on how things look I suspect I've got either a cracked ring or improperly worn ring.
I know the cylinders can be lightly Honed and then re-ringed... so this is actually a good block. It's also a good candidate for a nice high end resleeving job for someone who wants to build it.
Since I now have a spare block, two spare heads, and a spare intake... I think it's time to put them up for sale.

what is this about the BBBB.....is that like the B size pistons that are .025 over??
also, i thought the h22a4 engines were all closed deck??? or maybe i have it backwards....
maybe the ring was installed wrong in the factory.....since you owned and you would know if any major bad things happened to it....

the BBBB is .09 over. Its a standard size but just a nut hair larger.

Also how much we talking for the spare block fully assembled ?

Are we talking only the block (with the pistons, crank, etc...)?
Or do you need the head and IM too.
If you want everything: $1000 plus shipping.
If you want just the block, then $600.00 plus shipping.
(I've got a new head gasket and will put the whole thing back together if you buy everything.)
