Default Timing belt how to for 91 Prelude?

Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone knew any websites or guides about replacing the timing belt off of a 1991 Prelude? Its for my friend. I believe his engine is a B21A1. I have tried to do a google search but nothing came up. thanx in advance.

Timing belt is no fun if you don't know what you are doing... But if you want some tip here we go... first you will have to setup the crank pully to 0 degree, when you like on the cover there will be #'s on the bottom cover. 0 is TDC. Now remove the valve cover and make sure the cam pully is show up on 12 o'clock with the arrow up and if you like on the 9 and 3 o'clock, there will be make on both side linning up with head. Now remove the crank pully bolt and pully. Making sure the mark has not move. Remove the lower cover. There will be a bolt on the middle of the cover, lose it and the timing belt will come off....

timing belt on the 3rd gen is the same as any other bseries motor, the only problem is the limited space on the timing belt side of the motor.

Yeah the 91 has the b21a1 in it. Noone said this is an easy task....

You want to remove the drivers side engine mount , then remove all accesory belts and any accesories that are in your way. Then remove the splash guard below the front bumper for future access. Then youre going to have to work on your crank pulley, you have to remove this, and it's probably not going to be any fun since a lot of the times it seems to be siezed and it takes a huge impact gun to remove this "special bolt" as they call it.

You're going to want to take off your valve cover, make sure your cams are pointing up in relation to the cylinder head (when they are lined up, you should drop 5mm pins in the cams to lock them in place, these 5mm slots are behind the cam gears, look for them and you should see them) and also make sure your flywheel mark is pointing at TDC. Then remove your black timing belt cover (the black plastic panel on the right side of the engine), then your going to want to loosen to timing belt tensioner pulley, there is a bolt above the crank pulley and torwards the right of the crank, left to losen it.

It's also a VERY GOOD idea to replace your water pump when you're changing your timing belt, this is no joke. Once you get your new water pump on, route your timing belt as the old one was routed (maybe your friends timing belt snapped so he wouldn't know how it was routed, if you cant figure it out then maybe you shouldnt attempt to install this, but I'm confident you can figure it out. If his t-belt was snapped, he better have got his cylinder head inspected for bent valves before you go and install this new timing belt, if he did get it inspected, then youre ready to go) and fit the belt over the cam gears, then go down to the crankshaft t-belt sproket making sure you maintain good tension between the cam gears and the crank sproket, then route it up to the tensioner and water pump (Besides the new water pump, make sure your tensioner is NEW, no joke either, they can and probably will break on you if you reuse them) and apply the tensioner so it maintains good tension on the timing belt.

Then after your visual inspection of your work, remove the 5mm cam pins and manually rotate your engine counter-clockwise a few times to make sure the timing belt hasn't skipped a tooth or two. After you confirm everything is all good, then start putting everything back together.

Here is a site where the factory manual is uploaded, definately save this site for future reference. It has your entire Timing belt installation on there if you want to print it out, I would, and it's going to be invaluable and probably make all my typing forgettable lol....good luck man, youre going to need it!
