Default Does your exhaust garggle when you shift?

I've got a 99 GS-R with AEM intake, DC Sports 4-2-1 header and DC catback. My timing is set to 18 and my plugs are gapped at 44. When I shift gears it gives off a small garggling/popping sound. Is this normal for this exhaust? What could fix this?

it's normal.. wehn I was N/A I got that all the time... Greddy EVO, Greddy header and AEM.

since I went turbo, it doesnt gurgle anymore....

i think it has to do with running a little rich/lean since you openend up the system.... if you get cam gears and have it tuned... you might be able to get rid of it.. but dont worry about it.. it's normal.

Mine does it too. It's normal. I think it's from the air pressure inside the exhuast changing rapidly (i.e. going from lots of positive flow, at acceleration, to little or now flow at shift).

if you think your popping is bad... you should hear mine with 12:5 compression

if i let off the gas at 7000 rpms and then give it a little bit... it goes WHAMP sooo loud lol.

thats what I was thinking is that it was a little on the rich side, but its not enough to set off the CEL. I advanced my timing and regapped my plugs and it quit a little. I'm going to change my fuel filter this weekend and run some injector cleaner through it. Oh, and I'm only getting about 20 mpg and my driving is split freeway/city. Hmmmm... What could be the problem? Would it benefit me to get a bigger fuel rail and FPR even though the ecu controls most of the fuel curve?

is that right that the tank holds 13 gallons? 260/13=20mpg... i can already hear it... me taking my car to the dealership (its warrantied) "well son, you know when you start putting that high performance stuff on your car, your mpg goes down" why do dealerships talk to us like we're idiots?

When do you fill up? My gas gauge starts indicating "E" after about 275 miles, the light comes on before 300 miles. I've gone as far as 330 before gassing up.

So, here's what you do: when you get gas, fill the tank and reset the trip meter. Then, next time you're at the gas station, fill the tank as before (first click?), and compare the miles on the trip meter to the gallons indicated on the gas pump.

if you don't hit VTEC every damn light..it's possible to hit 300+ miles per tank

I dont. I shift between 3-4k, and usually run about 70-80 on the freeway. My driving is split down the middle. freeway/city. I only hit vtec maybe once or twice a day. I fill up to a full tank, then fill a little after the light comes on.

it holds 13, but you don't do the math like that.

you have to fill it up all the way. push the tripometer. next fillup however much gas you put in is how much you used to go that far.

even when my gas light has been on for 10 miles I can't put more than 11 gallons in the tank.

I get about 25mpg city with ihe.

does that not sound right? make sense to me. I can travel 260 miles on 13 gallons of gas. 260/13=20mpg.

no it doesnt make sense. The only way you've used 13 gallons of gas is if you actually *ran out* of gas before or as you arrived at the station.
