Do you need a hydraulic or cable tranny? What year Civic are you swapping into?

ok, some useful info here, and some not so useful info. First, the b16 with ls 5th gear sounds really good, however it even says there are no more parts available as they have been discontinued and no longer available in the states. hmmm. that doesn't really help if i can't get the parts, but i can look into seeing if i can get them. as for the guy who said get an hf tranny, that won't work. i have an hf tranny in my car now and get the exact same gas mileage as i did with my si tranny and they shift at exactly the same rpms as before. but i have a 89 civic and want to go from the z6 motor that i put into it to the b16, which is a b series, so the hf or si tranny isn't going to help. also i can do the hydro to cable conversion so whichever tranny is better geared for highway driving is what i want. so, as i originally posted, which of the three transmissions would be best for highway driving? or perhaps i could just use the ls transmission or another transmission that would be better? i don't need to have super short gears, since i don't drag race the car. i autocross it, so a little bit longer in 2nd wouldn't be a bad thing anyway. for now i can try to find out about getting that ls 5th gear and counter gear, but how about a whole transmission that would bolt up that i can get parts for that aren't discontinued? thanks.

i'll tell you right now.....The ys1 is not your best bet for Freeway speeds. Yeah from 0-60 in less then 5 (in an hf) but on the freeway you have to drop into 4th at 6k to get it to drop down and go...and then not but 2 secs later shift into 5th where you hit top speed real quick......You can have the best of both world's drag like tranny/motor combo...but you can't get the parts for the Drag and/gas mileage/top end....Good luck.....
ys1 w/ lsd is so badass though

There are two YS1 transmissions.

One was in the GSR the other was in the LS.

The cable LS is geared tallest of the B cable transmissions.

You could also build a hydro LS trans in a cable case (92-93).

That would give moster highway gears but poor accelleration.
