Default Seriously looking to buy a SV650....is this a good deal?

Its a 2000 SV650 with 5,900 miles. The bike has never been laid and looks great. The titleis clean. The mods on the bike are a full m4 exhaust, factory Jet Kit. Bar Ends. Frame
Sliders. New grips. Desnorkled Air filter.

He wants $3500 for it. Sounds liek a good deal.......should i go for it?

Were there anythin with the 2000 sv's i should look out for or anything?

Yes you can, you have to swap the gauge cluster, lots of re-wiring, it doesn't just wire up. Then you have to convert the bars to clipons (including the upper triple). I think there will be a problem with the nekkids stock brake master cylinder. The rear sprocket is also different, only by one tooth though. I don't beleive there were really any problematic issues that HAD to be fixed right away with any of the years.
As far as I can remember nothing drastic changed between the years, in 02 the S models had pre-load adjusters.

The 1st gens do have a different frame, they are very tubular/round. The 03-04 is a lot more angular. The 05 frames are black!! Sexy!!
check out http://www.svrider.com The forum is kinda slow, but the tips N tricks section is growing.

SV = fully naked
SVS = half fairing

I asked around about putting the half fairings on the SV and was told I didn't want to try. IMO the SVS is a nice balance between naked and full fairings but I'm a little biased.

$3500 seems like a good deal until you realize it's an '00 (think warranty). According to all the **** I read, aftermarket parts shouldn't add to the value of the bike unless you were planning on doing that **** anyway. Assume a stock price and then add to that what you're willing to pay on top of that for the extra stuff you want. If the guy is trying to recoup most of what he spent on parts (which is true with most ads I saw) than it's overpriced. I'm not saying this is a bad deal, just not the best deal I've seen, given the year. Check out nada.com for a ballpark figure on what you should be looking to pay. I've found most bikes are over the retail book value even though they're being sold by a private seller. Have you seen the bike in person?

I've spent the last 9 months browsing the DC area ads for an SVS so I've seen a few make the cycle through the different ads. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I think it is a little high. I read a really good "how to" on buying bikes on http://www.gixxer.com. Says to minus 10% off asking price. My friend bought a brand new SVS for $5500 2 years ago, it was an 02.

Yea im not planning to pay $3500 for this. Id like to get the SVS but if he is willing to give me a deal i would pick up the bare version.

Do the new frames have any advantages over the older ones on the 2000 models?

Wow 9 months? That spatience right there. Ive been waiting for liek 2 months untill i pass my MSF (which i did top of my class) to actually shop around for a bike. Now that ive been off a bike for a week the greater the urge to ride hah.

As far as I know, the frames are just a personal preference. If you want an SVS, get an SVS. There's no point in getting something you weren't really looking for just because it's a good deal. It sounds to me like you should wait around for an '03 SVS... if you can wait.

I (someone else) found mine on craigslist.org. You see quite a few bikes on there in the course of a week and most even have pics. I also relied heavily on the washingtonpost.com classifieds section but there aren't any pics and you need to be willing to call people out of the blue. Other than that I checked ebay and other forums like svrider.com but most of those were out of the area.

my buddy bought his 02 sv650s around june of this year for 4k. the bike is absolutely bone stock and had less than 2k miles on it.

I found a silver 03 with 2xxx miles on it. Its really pretty virgin. But he wants $5100 for it but haggled down to $4900.

Its silver, which really looks sharp and i am very tempted. Is this a fair price?

I bought my '03 with 4100 miles for $4200 and it's nearly perfect.

I probably wouldn't pay more than $4500 for that bike but that may just be me.

The first bike I looked at the guy was firm on $4500 and it wasn't really worth that so I walked away. I wanna say that was 2 months ago and the bike just got listed again this week.

If it's too much, he won't get the price he's asking and you can hit him up again in a few weeks. If someone else decided to give him the money he's asking, yeah you miss out, but just think they saved you a few hundred bucks.

Yeah.... it's the one I posted in some other thread around here about the owner doing a wheelie in front of me.

It's this bike:
http://washingtondc.craigslist....html

Just FYI, the "immaculate" part is a lie. There's clearly scuff marks on the left bar end and I think some minor scuffing on the fairing.

That sounds like a good deal. You'll love the sv650. My cousin has one and it handles like a dream!
