im trying to change my outside door handles. other than the 2 10MM screws, i know that you have to remove the tumbler clip that holds in the lock, and the rod that is connected to the handle....but what did you guys use to take those out. i tried to pull the clip out with needle nose pliers but theres just not enough room and i cant get it. also, how do you remove the rod? i tried to just pry it out but still no luck. i dont wanna break anything. any suggestions?

Those things can be a bitch to remove. I just took everything you're talking about out of both doors from a 98 EX, and you just have to work with it for a while. I know that's not much help, but that's all I can suggest.

I'll try to take some pics of the rods, and how they clip in, and maybe that can help with the removal process. That was my first thought was to start prying and pulling on them, but there's a way to safely, and easily remove them without breaking anything, it's just hard to explain without pics.

 

Never done it, but sometimes using surgical forceps can be a lifesaver. They're all I use to push the clip that holds the window cranks on and off.

well i figured it out. not too hard at all. just had to get the right tools

did it today i used a flat head

 

if you are talking about the window crank, an easy way to do it is to take an old rag or thin towel, wedge up between the panel and the crank handle and kind of go side to side while you pull up on the towel. the little horseshoe clip will work its way out. or you can get the tool at an auto zone or napa for like 9 bucks. its a gm crank handle remover tool.

 

First time I did it I almost kicked my door in... Answer is...you need a pack of pick tools from auto zone or parts store.... they look like screw drivers with pointy ends or curved ends..... usually cost about $ 10.00 a set.... they're small and easier to work with.... then you pop out the lock, pop out the handle and turn it around until it comes off.... kinda tricky but its a no brainer.....
