i have a 95 b18b and i have a few questions that i havent been able to figure out yet maybe someone has had experience with them.

1. my car feels like it has vtec , very mild and what i mean by this is that once i get to about 3500 rpm i get quite a surge in power(i do know that it does not really have vtec)

2. i have a rattle in the rear passenger side that sounds like a spring ratteling

3. there is also a weird sound coming from my engine bay, like a rattle that is not really rpm dependant , i do not think it is coming from the internals , it is quite loud and i was thinking maybe pcv valve.

What i have done to the car is custom 2 1/4 exhaust , sri w/ k&N filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, 4000 km oil changes, timing , valve adjust , fuel filter i think thats basically it , although i have a feeling my fuel pump may be getting week as it feels quite a bit more powerful on a full tank.

b18b = no vtec. unless a conversion was done. you would def. hear the vtec kick in and not just feel it. dont know why you feel a surge at 3500, with your mods u def. shouldnt feel a surge close to a vtec. b18b has lower compression so they pull more up to 4k. as far as ur sound from the engine bay, is it a rattle? a metal on metal noise? need more description

 

like i said above i do know it does not have vtec , i was just giving an example most of you i am sure could relate to . As for the sound it sounds like it is from the backside of the engine and i dont have definate words to discribe it , sorta a we ticking that will get loud then quiet down it is very sparadic. It does get quieter when the car warms up though

those five pages a day sucks. just be patient and make every post count. by the way you describe it, it doesnt sound like ne internal things. maybe somethin is lose under ur hood and just rattles around.

 

i have thought maybe that as well but i cannot seem to find anything , had it on a hoist as well , well if the engine dies time for a new one , she just had her 200000th birthday(that is in kilometers)

 

to answer:
1) it's called a powerband....not gonna make much power at below 3500.

2)rear passneger side engine compartment rattle but sounds like a spring? doing like the thing doors hit when you open them to far? get yourself a stethescope...seriously...

3) a pcv valve rattling? they are plastic and you can look to see if it's "rattling" cause it's in the middle of the two inside runners on the IM.

 

2. the sound is in the rear of the car not the engine bay, and can i see the pcv valve from above ?
