Default opinions and legality of seat mounting

I currently Momo t-frame (bottom mount) seat rigged to stock rails. I was thinking of mounting the seat directly to the floor pan.

Would it be legal/safe to mount it with bolts strait through the floor pan? I was thinking that I would run a piece of steel between bolts under the car to distribute the load. I would also most likely add one section of steel between the seat and the floor pan to give me my desired height.

What are your thoughts on a set up like this?

I would first look at the seat mounting that were provided by OEM. I want to make the new ones as strong as the OEM.

Roll cages are attached to the car with plates, at least 9 inches of square inchage. That's like 3" by 3". ME, I would use two plates 3 x 3 top and bottom of floor bolted together with 3 5/16 grade 5 bolts. Then drill a hole thru the plates for the attachment of the seat.

Overkill? Not when my fat butt is going into the seat.

Legal and safe as far as I am concerned.

Other opinions may vary..

Oh, and I would use almunum as spacer material to save weight.

Any time you use a backing plate on a bolt-through seat or harness mount (or bolt-in rollcage) think seriously about putting generous radii on the corners. I've never personally seen a failure of this type but the theory goes that a pointy corner can act lile an old-fashioned punch type can opener, if the thing is loaded in tension the wrong direction.

Here's what we did...

The Recaro sliders bolt through the holes in those cross bars, that are 1x1x.120" They tie ito the tops of the stock rails (those ratchety bits) and attach similarly on the sill side.

We took some 1 1/4" x 1/4" angle iron and welded front to back rails (right angle down) from the stock seat brace (the little hump on the floor) back to the floor. Makes for a great mounting with Momo side mount seat brackets, so not only can you adjust the seat in the brackets, but there's spaced out holes on the angle iron, allowing me to adjust the seat forwards or backwards. One of these days I'll get a digital camera so I can illustrate.
