I could use as much help as I can get here choosing a clutch. anyone that has reviews or that knows advantages, disadvantages, costs etc... would be greatly appreciated.
this is for an all motor street setup (jdm k20a) & I will be using a (most likely) a Toda Flyweel (3.7kg = 8.2 lbs) which is chrome-moly (therefore stronger than aluminum) tuned I am hoping for 220whp & down the road I hope to get cams & valvetrain to get me up to 240+ whp
I will continue to update this thread with the best prices I can find for different clutches
found:
exedy stage 1 for $277 shipped ebay
exedy stage 2 for $359 shipped ebay
exedy flywheel for $320 (9.46 lbs - chrome moly)
clutch masters stage 1 $458.36 shipped (prostreetonline)
clutch masters stage 2 $552.41 shipped
action clutch (from Kteller.com)
1MS - $335 single heavy duty pressure plate 6 puck w/MIBA friction pads
1MD - $335 unsprung disk 6 puck w/MIBA friction pads
1KS - $395 single heavy duty pressure plate. Sprung disk segmented tribco kevlar
can anyone explain the differences in the action clutches?
ACT 2100 $379.86 organic street disc
ACT 2100 $327.28 4 puck Race Disc
ACT 2100 $343.33 6 puck Race Disc

I like clutchmaster, really good quality
, kinda expensive thou
but you get what you pay for.
CM really impressed me, when my friend installed one w/ a light flywheel in his type r CRX, he sidestepped the clutch at 5k and the dash litterally popped right out. It was so cool, the clutch grabbed so hard that the dask actually popped out. Afterwards we were playing w/ the dash, it wiggled up and down and side to side about 6"

I say go with Competition Clutch.
I got a stage 4 setup with the flywheel for around 700. I know it's costly but it grabs like a mother.

On both of my K20's (A2 & A), I have went with the Exedy Cerametallic and flywheel. I love it, it's easy to drive, and pedal pressure is barely noticable. It grabs hard, and when I swapped engines again, I checked it after a year of HARD driving; there was barely any wear.

Yeah on that note i can't say the same about my clutch. The pedal pressure is definately noticable. Oh and if your wondering, Yes my left calf is bigger than the right

Exedy Street/strip (aka Stage 1) or Cerametallic. Both are fine clutches and handle the power. Dont listen to those telling u to go puck on a street car... dumb *** idea. Puck clutches last a lot less and are hard on your trans. But hey, they handle so much power blah.

2002 Civic Si-T....ACT flywheel though

CM
I never tried the stage 1 or 2 on the EP, but the stage 3 was really nice (it felt like stock and held up at the track).
If you've got the money and race your car a lot the twin disc is great. I run CM's twin disc on both the EP and EK.

Working for a distributor that sells ACT, Exedy and CM, I would say go with the Exedy stage one or two they both retain a stock pedal feel. You have to look at it this way too, Exedy(Daikin Corporation) makes OEM clutch for 85% of the oem market and 80% of the aftermarket companies that include ACT, Centerforce, CM, RPS, HKS and NISMO and they all rebadge or modify Exedy clutches to be there own. So i have always stuck with Exedy. I now have a close to 250whp EP and i am still running the stage 2 exedy with absolutely no problems. MY left calf is normal size. So i would say the True Honda is right and listen to him (Eddie), he has a good clue on the clutch market.
Go exedy! They are also based out of detroit, so you know they make good stuff heheh. In all seriousness, ACT etc are rebuilds of stock clutches. Why pay for a rebuild when you can get a new one
