Default Parking my bike at a mall

i live up in Big Bear, CA where crime is rock bottom, even less then where i use to live in Hilo, HI. I don't go down into the city too often but when i do i don't leave my bike for more then 10 or 15 min. I keep hearing bad stuff about taking my bike to a mall. is it really that bad???? im mean sure someone could steal it or kick it over but in broad day light??? what if i park up in front? am i gonna get !@#$ for parking on the curb? what ways can i insure the safety of my pimp mobile??? should i chain it to a light post? put a Barb wire fence around it????

You can try using a chain and lock to secure it to a pole or something else immobile (a car is not a good idea). I usually park in the white diagonal line area near other spots. That way I'm not taking up a parking spot, but I'm still in the "parking area."

And yes, thieves can take your bike if you leave it there for 10 or 15 minutes. They'll drive up in a pickup truck, toss your bike in the bed, and leave. Gone in a few minutes.

What mall is in Big Bear? I thought it was just snow...?

ontario mills bad choice , lots of thieves, u should take ur car rather then ur bike there. if so do what marmalade said, chain it, lock it, and park in the diagnol lines closest to where there are alot of people.

dude, I grew up in riverside, and I know you don't want to take anything of value to Onterio Mills. I know 3 or 4 people that have had cars (hondas) stolen from that parking lot in broad daylight.

One of the things I love about living in a small town. I've lived in a big city all my life and a small town for the past 3 years and I love it. It's a nice break from the crime, bullshit, violence and all the other crap that comes with a big city.

That is nuts i LIve in missouri where life sucks, but we leave our bikes all over the place half the time with our keys in them, and the worst i ever get is someone staring at it waiting to ask me hey is it fast questions......There are gyro stabalizer alarms you can get which will ring extremely loud if you tip the bike or cause it to sit in any position but at the leaned parked angle. That works as a deterant. Ive also heard of handle bar locks of sort which atach up by the clamp. Anyone have any insight?

I've never had a problem with leaving my bike in the mall parking lot. I always park in the lines at the end of the row (not infront of the handicaped parking places). I know they make alarms for bikes, and I know they make the tilt sensors for cars. Maybe you can find one with a tilt sensor for you bike, or make one up. I'm fully insured too, so I don't really worry a whole lot about it. If someone steals it I'll use the ins money to get a new 600. Besides who would go through the troubble of stealing my beat 250, when all the 600's and 1000's are sitting right there ?

I like this approach, sorta a "I dont care i dare you style" I used to leave my car unlocked for exactly this reason. I figured i had the worst car ont eh block, someone would ahve to be twisted to try to steal anything. Randomly someone tried to steal my radio, I think its because it had a cool glow and looked expensive, but in reality was like 100 bucks. To end story my dad was randomly up, it was a few years ago when I was 17, anyways he chased them off. Never really found out who it was.
