Will a main relay go out in the cold?
All summer I had problems starting my car (bone stock 92 accord LX), presumably due to a bad main relay. It had all the signs. As the weather got colder it has been starting fine until today. I pulled out of the parking lot at school and BAM the car dies and wont start back up.
You guys think my relay might have finally **** the bed completely? It turns over fine, just won't start.

It could. Now i am not the one to start changing parts for the hell of it. I tend to diagnos problems fully before heading down to autozone.
But, given the fact that you had starting problems earlier, i would go ahead and change it right now and see.
Then, if that does not fix it, you will have to get in there and troubleshoot it properly.

Well, after paying $80 to get my car towed home the son of a bitch started right up. Gotta be that stupid relay...

a flaw in earlier honda main relays is the solder joints. i have repaired many of them by simply desoldering the joints, cleaning them, then laying nice fresh solder on the joints. cheap, simple, and effective fix. usually the problem manifests itself as an intermittently starting car. pull the relay and look for bad solder joints. you will have to take the relay apart, but it should just pop apart.
Very well could have been the relay but many times (historically) getting the car towed bounces the fuel pump and moves the armature to a good location just 1/32 of an inch from where it was before hitting some bumps.
Trouble shooting may point to both items, does your car have a metal fuel filter in front of the fire wall, if so loosen the 12 mm nut on top and turn the key on, watch for serious fuel flow, not just wetness like when you cracked the nut, no fuel flow for a the first few seconds after key in the run position normally means bad relay but guess what so does a dead fuel pump have no fuel flow. Banging on the fuel tank generously while cranking may get you started (after closing the 12 mm nut) equals bad fuel pump or connections or wiring. Good luck.

i hope you dont think i am an ******* when i say this but it is a shame that you had to pay $ 80 but i dont feel totally sorry for you the reason being that you knew all summer long as you stated that you had problem had you fixed it then you would have $ 80 in your pocket ,,i guess the old saying pay me now or pay me later works ,,,, I am trying to make a point that 1 should not wait till something totally breaks to have it fixed it could cost more again i am not trying to be an ******* and i feel really bad that you are $ 80 short ...
Now as Duane stated make sure that when car does not start is fuel related, get a can of carb cleaner remove hose that goes into throttle body spray carb cleaner in there if car starts .. remove main relay it is located under the dash driver side looking at it from bottom it is a rudty/brownish color it has i believe 7 wires going to it .. once removed take is apart a small screwdriver will do the trick and check the solderings they tend to crack thus not powering fuel pump thus car wont start if you see any cracked resolder and put all back together

you're such an *******.
another test is when the car isn't starting, reach up and smack the main relay HARD. if it starts immediately after, there is your problem. sometimes you can jolt them into complying. worked every time when mine went out on me (once I figured out what the friggin problem was that is!)
