Default SMSP prototype header install

ok---

I installed the latest prototype from SMSP, it is a 4-1 piece, 15/8 primaries that bump up to 13/4 then merge into a 2.25 collector. i've shown the pics before, but here is the header pre-install:

The install was fabulous, especially considering it was a test-piece and Dave relied on me for several key measurements...usually a mistake to rely on me for anything involving numbers, but this time i did well, haha-

Clears a/c, clutch slave cylinder, and will mount to a catback, however...i did have to cut off my existing 2 bolt flange on my Apexi N1, since it was 1.75 ID, then for about and inch or so, it steps up to under 2" ID, then it goes up to the size tht the rest of the exhaust is, 2.1" ID and 2.36 OD...this meant that with the SMSP 2.25 collector, id be hitting a BIG restriction, so, i fabbed up one of SMS's flared pipes with his free-floating flange so it would essentially replace the flange i cut off. Smooth transition from header to b pipe with no stumbling blocks for flow. Again, i need to stress that this is a test piece, however---the construction is the definition of flawless.

flange, the stamp of champions hehe

now, on to initial impression re: performance-
let me preface this with the fact that the tune that is on my FC was done without the Crower 3, Skunk Intake mani, and SMS header...all of which i added later...so what i'm sayin is that ALOT of power is yet to be found, despite my pleasing first impressions detailed here...

the engine wants to rip up to redline with a ferver that wasn't there with the DC; i had the revlimit set @ 7500 for safety sake, and today i popped the rev limit on my first pull with the SMSP unit...so i raised the limit to 7600 and it didn't want to quit after 7500....won't push it till tuning.

I did notice a drastic drop right around 5200 rpm, which is where i had my vtec @ and it picked back up after about 200 rpm, approx. 5400; i noticed this on agent jams sms equipped engine, and he has the same tune and parts as my engine, so im sure there is a tuning issue/requirement that the sms brings to the table...for a quick fix, i bumped vtec up to 5400 and things improved. The question is, are the gains before and after the drop so much vs. the DC that the drop might actually be where i was with the DC, and the drop is a perception error...who knows; the dyno will tell...

the note of my engine has changed drastically as well. When i installed the Skunk mani, it made my engine note sound more like that of a dohc vtec...you know when you hear a b16 go from b4 vtec to vtec...that 'on/off' intake raucous? Well, that sound found itself into my engine note, and, now with the SMSP header, the sound is now extremely raucous if i apply full throttle at any point, but vtec is scary--- it is starting to mirror a race car in terms of sound; it is the type of noise that makes people not believe you have a sohc under the hood.

At any rate, i will be dynoing very soon with Jam to see what's doing with the curves.

SMSP, incredible, simply incredible.

BTW, here are some random pics of my friend Brad's sr20DET powered hardbody pickup...he's the welding mastermind that fabbed the midpipe-

That is the one good thing about the 240sx coming with a truck motor. Any swap that is simple in the 240 should work in the truck. I have had fantasies of a RB25 powered hardbody pickup.
